On a sweltering hot, humid day: Heineken, for whatever reason.

For regular easy drinking: Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale

For some heavier, tastier fare: Unibroue Maudite.

I will readily admit I'm not much of a beer person, but that's what I've enjoyed so far.

Maudite is damn tasty, but hard to find (where I live).

We can't forget Stone Brewing Co. and good ol' Arrogant Bastard.
I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.

Check out your local breweries.

Visit them, get to know the brewmasters.

You'll have fun, and probably find some great suds.

If I can find incredible brews in Utah, then anyone can.

Sunlight and time cause skunk, not the color of the bottle. The most dangerous ones are clear bottles that are unpasteurized (if you leave them out in the sun). If you keep beer in the fridge, and buy it from a refrigerated store, it's going to be fine.

I almost always drink Ontario or Quebec brewed beers. Steamwhistle is brewed here in Toronto and is a great Pilsener. Sleemans IPA is from one of the large breweries but good nonetheless on a hot summer's day. Last weekend we picked up a case of Neustadt lager that was pretty good too. Right now there are a couple of bottles of King Pilsener in the fridge.

I'm not a huge beer drinker (although I am huge ), but I usually keep Guinness in the house. One of my daughters usually gets me a 12 pack of various foreign beers for my birthday, and it takes 6 months to drink that, so it's nice for variety, but I don't drink enough that it would be worth looking for any of them. The vast majority of American commercial popular brands are like having sex in a canoe; f*****g close to water.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

1a.) Yup, and b.)Nope (kinda). Green bottles do not block UV rays very well. UV rays break down the hops oil and causes a horrible flavor.

2. Having worked in a party store, I can assure you that often those bottles in the fridge have sat on shelves near the windows where the sunlight hits them.

So the moral of the story is to not buy beer from stores that have coolers that are exposed to sunlight.

Not only that, but stores that have no other storage than the coolers that don't get hit with sunlight.

And only on Thursdays.

Anything from Fyne Ales, although Highlander and Avalanche are particular favourites.

It helps if you live 20 mins from the brewery.

... and absolutely no American yellow tinned beers.

I'd have to say that THE best beer I've ever had is McEwan's Scotch Ale. Not that India Pale Ale Export crap, but the Scotch Ale. Looks like Pepsi or Coke, but it's not as thick and heavy as Guiness.

By far, the BEST I've evar had, hand's down.

I'd also recommend Pyramid Heffeweizzen. That's good stuff. And if you're kinda on a budget, an ice cold Corona with a lime can't be beat.

And if you want an alternative to Guiness, try a Murphy's Irish Stout. Just as good, but a little less of a bitter aftertaste to it. Nice and thick with a good head.

Newcastle Brown is a little scary. I haven't had it for a few years, but I remember it had the texture/look of Guinness, and smelled like Vodka.

Anyway, my votes:

and

Duvel and Little Creatures. Awesome.

I'm also a fan of Spaten and Franziskaner and the like.

Unfortunately, all I have on me right now is Carlton Dry (formerly Premium Dry), but it'll have to do.

Yeah, it's much harder to find it out West where I live too, but I've got this randomly eclectic little beer store a minutes' walk from my house that carries a surprisingly large amount of fine alcohols. It's sorta like they just took a look at the ordering book and randomly started selecting. Oh well, I won't complain.

No. It is beer.

What do you think beer is made from? Malted barley (for the most part), water, hops, yeast.

Do they leave out the hops in "malt liquor"? No, it has hops, water, malted barley, and yeast.

It is beer.

Lol, I knew I'd get ripped apart for posting that. It's the most popular beer in America. Why am I the only one that has said they like any of the mainstream, popular beers? Yeah, they might not be the most refined, absolutely best tasting beers, but you're going to tell me when all of you guys go to the bars Friday and Saturday night and out to the clubs or whatever that you all order León, Negra Modelo, Hacker-Pschorr, Killians, and stuff like that. I'm the only person on this entire board that even remotely likes Bud Light, Budweiser, Coors, Miller Light, High Life...anything like that?

I drove past the old Bell's brewery on my normal commute to class this morning. And on mondays I stay the night at the house where Larry Bell learned to brew.

If I had to make a choice of a single brewer to drink for the rest of my life it would be Bell's.

I'm not afraid to admit it, I do like the taste of a Miller High Life every now and then. Errr... did.

But as per making your choice known about drinking mass-produced, mass-appealing beer, you don't hear me talking about my favorite tap water do you?

Of course not. I would never ever buy that Killian's crap. ;-)

Sure, why wouldn't we drink good beer at the bar? No reason to suffer through the experience. I chose my bars based on their beer selection, music selection and atmosphere, in that order.

You must try Kronenbourg Blanc when in France. It is just about my favorite beer and it pains me greatly that it isn't available here in the States.

I'm partial to the real Budweiser.
People who drink whatever their average American bar has on tap remind me of an alcoholic buddy of mine.
Me: What's your favorite beer?
Alcoholic buddy: The kind with foam.

The title of the thread is "Favorite beer? Recommendations?" Not "What beer do you most often drink in sleazy bars downtown?"

As I posted, I enjoy blue the most, but in a bar situation, I drink lucky lager cause it's cheap. ($2 a beer opposed to $4)

I drink Bud Lite every weekend. It's the only beer I can get drunk off of without inducing horrible heartburn. I have no shame in it, why waste good beer on getting sh!tfaced?

The weekday beers are usually much better since I'll only have one or two after work, but I can't get drunk off of tasty beers, it hurts my tummy.

I have to say that on a really hot day nothing satisfies like an ice-cold Corona with a lime.
