ibook screen brightness keys won't work properly

	The brightness of the screen defaults to max brightness when the ibook is re/started. The brightness function keys won't work UNLESS I plug in my imac keyboard into the ibook's USB port. For some reason, the ibook's brightness fuction keys work after I plug in my imac keyboard. Just as weird, I can remove my imac's keyboard from the USB port & the ibook's brightness function keys will continue to work...until I shut the ibook down...then they won't work again. All the other pre-set function keys(and the rest of the keyboard, for that matter) are working normal. Suggestions, anyone?
