I was running iChat for several days continuously with no problems until 2 days ago. Suddenly, iChat refused to play sounds when assigned, such as when I log in, when buddies log in and out, and when messages are sent. I've tried just about everything: repaired permissions, updated to 10.3.6, reassigning the sounds to different actions... nothing has worked. Has anyone seen this before and found a solution? Thanks.
I bring order to chaos. You are in chaos windows, you are the contradiction, a bug wishing to be an OS.

I sort of had the reverse problem. I'd assign sounds to people, and then try to unassign them, and it still used it anyhow. I use Adium now and it's much cooler than iChat. Maybe you should check that out?
