Hi guys. My apache server keeps dying. It starts up but then immediately quits. The error_log says this:

dyld: /usr/sbin/httpd Undefined symbols:
_checkpw

any ideas? I've tried replacing the httpd.conf file with the .bak one and the .default one, but it makes no difference. It all started to go wrong when I tried to install php. I followed the instructions from http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/php/ but it seemed to kill apache completely. When you start apache from the command line it says its started, however it immediately dies if you keep an eye on 'top'
I've searched the entire HD for the file _checkpw but can't find it. Also, I've searched the httpd.conf file for it, but no luck.

any ideas oh unix gurus?

thanks

Stu

I'm guessing that the PHP just needs to be recompiled for 10.2. Try recompiling it yourself, or just use the PHP that comes with 10.2 if you can.

Hey, I'm having this same exact problem at this guy, 5 years later. Only it started when I upgraded to PHP 5 on 10.3.9 Server. Ive never had any problems compiling php 4 over and over with different customizations, but php 5 is causing this odd problem.

FYI I fixed my problem. Turns out the culprit was just the order the apache modules were loading in. Putting PHP5 ahead of one of the other ones in the AddModule and LoadModule sections solved the problem. Bad news I don't recall which module is the one that php has to be in front of :-) but I hey, I gave ya most of the solution anyway...

Yeah if you have problems with Apache remember to check your logs with Console. I have had issues like that before, system prefs doesn't really give any clues.
