OK, here's the deal Basically I have designed a website that my dad's going to be maintaining. I have designed the site carefully and simply want him to be able to edit the site's content, without being able to mess with the design. With the stylesheet in place, the site looks something like this:

I think it would be best and enforce the idea of separation of presentation and content if he could simply edit the site in a visual way, as it looks like this (without the stylesheet):

I insist that the code be as little touched as possible. The more control that an app allows the site designer (me) with what is allowed to be edited, how the indents are made etc... the better.

It also required that he be able to add photos. In the site they represented like:

<div><img src="images/1.jpg" alt="" /></div>

So far I am guessing that it shouldn't be too hard to find an app like I'm looking for. I just want a nice shareware Mac OS X app that will let my dad make new paragraphs, put in images etc... Emphasis on actually using <h*>s, <em>s, <strong>s, etc... over deprecated style tags is desirable. The ability to take accented characters and change them accordingly is a must.

Also, my dad is actually a fairly experienced computer user, so I'm not exactly looking for anything made for complete idiots. He mainly doesn't want to have to write the character codes for accents, and to have to mark up all of the text whenever he wants to do updates, which is understandable.

So, yeah, if anyone has any suggestions for the type of app I'm looking for, that'd be great

P.S. Oh, and anything with direct publishing to the site is a plus.

Hmmm.. Well, I am partial to a Wordpress/MarsEdit combination. The setup of MarsEdit takes about 10 or 15 minutes of setup and tweaking, but once that's done, it's very easy to use, and he can post an entry directly to the site like sending an email.

He will still see the code, but can use shortcuts like Command-B for <strong> tags. It also provides a preview screen, and you can insert a CSS file so it gives an accurate representation of the final product.

Wordpress, though it will require you to port your design, is an excellent way to make sure he doesn't accidentally mess with the template/style.

You could give him RapidWeaver and you create a theme of the site.
