At some point within the last month for some bizarre reason whenever I try and download a .dmg file with Safari, it renames it as a .dms file. Anyone know a) why this is happening and b) how to fix it?

Preferences -> General -> check Open Safe Files (or something like that)

I don't see how that'll help to be honest. I click on a link to download a file called whatever.dmg and it then appears in Safari's downloads window as whatever.dms

Edit: Tried it anyway but no luck. I've also tried trashing the prefs but the problem remains.

Do you have Speed Download II installed? If so, get rid of that...

Any other Safari "enhancements" installed?

Nope, I'm at a loss as to what's going on and why it's suddenly appeared. It also now seems that .sit.bin files are affected as well!

I've solved it now! It seems that I did have SD2 installed once but had deleted it many moons ago. However the CMM Plugin remained which may have been causing this. Trashing it means all works OK now. The weird thing is this only started up a week or two ago and I have no idea why, SD2 has been gone from my system for months.
