I guess I'm expecting my new iPod tomorrow.
Since I use both a Mac and a PC can I use it with both?
If the first connection is to my Powermac, what would I have to do to make it work with my PC, and would I lose all of my downloaded songs in the process?

I've never used the iPod, but my PC does read Mac HFS+.
See this thread.

See this thread.
Doesn't mean it'll read the MP3 files on there without extra help. Just that you can use it as an external HDD.

No, they're made to be one unit for sale (fewer items to stock, one UPC code for the retailers) that can be attached to either machine at the initial purchase.
Read the first paragraph of the KB article. It says that the new iPod is shipped as an HFS+ drive. If you want it to work with windows (without Dataviz Plus or MacOpener) you'll need to reformat the drive to FAT32. I don't think you'll be able to go back and forth for music. File copying and using it as an external drive? You probably can...

Why not? MP3 files are MP3 files. iTunes and WinAmp recognize my external Firewire HFS+ drive's MP3 files just fine.
(Just wondering since I've never tried this with an iPod.)
