Steve Jobs said back in MWSF 2005 that 2005 was gonna be the year of HD.

I know 2003 was the year of the notebook like Steve Jobs said in MWSF 2003 because I bought my first Powerbook in 2003. But I certainly didn't buy an HD tv in 2005 and don't plan on it any time soon.

I bought an HDTV (CRT!!!). I know everyone loves size, but the picture is so much better on the CRT.

Once you see HD, you won't watch SD. I barely look at the non-HD channels anymore. Discovery Channel looks ridiculously amazing in HD.

No I didn't make a purchase. No plans in the near future.

I'm just waiting for my TV to die so I can buy a HDTV CRT as well. The ONLY downside to the CRT is the size/weight IMHO.

Nope. Bought my HDTV in 2004, but the damn thing doesn't have an ATSC tuner, dammit. Time to trade in.

I've had an HDTV since 1999. I got a new one in 2004, it broke replaced it this September with a new one.

By this time next year 25% of the American population will have an HDTV.

I bought the Sony Wega 42" Plasma HD set. AWESOME!!!!!! I try to watch 30" CRT's and I am bored ten seconds later. There is nothing like having a LARGE HD set. I can see why 25% of americans will have one by next year. It's inevitable people.

I'm just going stick with my 36" SD Sony until more people buy into the technology... or my TV dies.

I still haven't seen a compelling reason (for me) to upgrade.
I:
- Don't watch sports
- Don't have many shows in HD
- Watch tons of DVDs

Until HD-DVDs are available (or whatever), I'm not rushing out to buy a new TV. There is a "WOW" factor with HD, but I haven't seen anything to make me want to upgrade (and I've seen many of them).

I did. I bought one when I bought my house.

The price/performance ratio finally got to the point that I felt comfortable jumping on the HDTV bandwagon. Plus I have a nice finished basement to put it in now.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I bought a 32-inch Sharp Aquos LCD for my bedroom this year. I've had a Toshiba high-def rear-projection set for three years.

I bought my first HDTV CRT in late 2002 and my LCD one in 2004.

Now I've been waiting to bring this up. If it was the year of HD why does the iPod video have a 4x3 screen?

His poll is 10x more useful than that comment.

Actually any of them come to think of it.

turtle777, if you have a problem with my polls please PM me and we can discuss it.

I think this poll shows that Steve Jobs was wrong about 2005 being the year of HD. turtle777 do you agree or disagree?

That it's the year of HD doesn't mean that everyone will buy a HDTV set. He meant it was going to be the year when HDTV becomes mainstream, which it has.

Now I've been waiting to bring this up. If it was the year of HD why does the iPod video have a 4x3 screen?
Because a widescreen display would be really small and unpractical on an iPod.

4.1x2.4 = 1.708

16x9 = 1.777

Might need to use something other than that wheel, but seems the unit could handle a widescreen.

But then you'd have to fill the entire surface and turn it sideways, and the display would have to be touch sensitive to replace the wheel.. If you replace the current screen with a wide display, there'd be less screen estate.

I won't buy an HD TV because the problem is there is really no content to watch, besides sports and 'nature' shows. I read recently that only around 10% of the content on TV is in HD. Also, (kinda funny) people who own an HD TV think they are watching HD content 50% of the time when in reality they are watching standards analog content. You won't see people adopting HD until 2009, which is the FCC's deadline to end analog transmission.

digital transmissiong does NOT mean HD. no matter what date the FCC sets, the switch doesn't have to do with HD; it simply means they have to broadcast in digital. SD content will still be pumped out.

If that were 10 shows out of 100, you'd have to look at the 100. If that 100 included all cable channels like CSPAN2, The Hallmark Channel, Trio, SoapNet, Lifetime, etc, then that means that a much higher percentage of something someone actually wants to watch is in HD. I have 300 channels or something like that, and I only watch about 10 of them. 8 of those 10 have HD content (some all of the time, some most of the time). Almost all of the network prime time content is HD. Lost, CSI, etc look amazing in HD.

Interestingly, I've found (as casually observed evidence) that people that wear glasses are less likely to be impressed with HD, even if they have their glasses on at the time. I'm sure there are exceptions to this, but so far it has been true for the people I know.
