I have a macbook air 11" and am going on a long trip.
Amazon Kindle version are just for Kindles correct. Should I buy a Kindle in addition to my Macbook? Seems crazy right?
How do you all get books into your Macbook? Looking for ideas
I'm such an amazon guy so I'm upset.

Never done movies but that could be another idea too for plane rides....

Have you considered using a search engine such as "Google" to find out what to do with Kindle books on a Mac?

Let me help: There's a free Kindle app from Amazon in the App Store.

thanks S. I'm trying to get in the habit Googling everything, but that one fly by me. I thought Amazon would keep kindle books tightly under their control. So I'll be able to buy Kindle books and read them fine on the Macbook 11" air? ok,

But if anyone has other ideas on getting books into the laptop let me know. Library etc.

I peeked at some free ebook sites but they were too chaotic. Maybe someone has some good tips here. Same question with movies.

No offense, but if googling "Kindle Mac" was too hard, I wouldn't recommend anything other than Kindle eBooks, and the Apple Book Store.

Thanks Turtle you say that because of the chaos and compatibility issues with everyone besides Amazon and Apple. You are probably right my guess.

Hey, I had the kindle app on my large desktop and forgot about that. Tested it a couple of years ago.
Question: there are a couple of e book in there I cannot delete. Some of them I right click and do see option to remove/ delete, but a few only has remove from collection and is greyed out. Anyway to remove them outta the list!

One was a library ebook and the other a free kindle book. thanks! Can't get them to go away. The library one you click download and it says that's expired but the book cover just sits there and I don't want it there.

I'm not familiar with the Kindle App.

You could try deleting them in your Amazon Account.

BTW, I just checked, my mid 2012 Macbook air only get 5 Hours of batter time, so I'm screwed! Many plan rides are 11 hours and more...

I'm not sure what thou mean "from the library" ?

Like, a public library "borrowed" eBook ?

I'm sure there is a way to delete it. Did you try to google it ?

Let me google that for you

One book you're talking about putting on your computer is from the public library, is that correct? Details please. Some libraries use their own reader software - it enforces the "borrowed time" limit, which is needed by some e-book licensors to control how many "copies" are in circulation from a particular library.

Depending on the format of any given e-book, it could be put on a Mac through iBooks (the OS X app), through a third party app like Kindle, or through simply transferring a file as with text, rich text and PDF-formatted e-books. I use my iPad for e-books almost exclusively, because that makes it simpler to lug around. I have a fairly extensive collection of books, and most are supported by iBooks, except the third-party formatted books (like Kindle books). I'll suggest you visit The Gutenberg Project for a huge selection of out-of-copyright books, available in a wide variety of formats. It's like going to a candy store for me!

thanks GH!
man, now I don't know!
I did check out a few books from my local library a couple of years ago to test everything out, and then even forgot I had kindle.

Anyway does it matter? Indeed on of the copies says it beyond due, but why can't I right click and get the dang icon removed? I don't want it sitting there forever. There is one non library book that also does not have a way that I can find to remove it's icon.

I agree with Turtle to probably best to keep books to Kindle and Ibooks. (I've never tried ibooks yet, but I'm sure it will be fine). Lonely planet sells pds, I'm sure that's great too.

Thanks for the Gutenburg tip, does it work fairly well, and do you get a selection comparable to -- well nothing can be comparable to Amazon or Apple right? where you pay...

I borrow ebooks (and audiobooks) from my library website, it is a bit more PITA than amazon or ibookstore. Depending on the license per book, they use amazon, adobe, or clunky software called Overdrive, a little more difficult to get on the ipad. However, when books expire they seem to delete themselves.

You can get a lot of the free gutenberg versions of classic lit in the ibookstore, just search for free, if you don't want the trouble of manually installing them yourself from gutenberg.

you can delete books from ipad ibooks in the itunes interface... or from the app, select the book and swipe left.

thanks I!
I'm on Macbook air, never owned an ipad yet.

BTW, still having to log in every single post, any ideas on that? Real nuisance, used to not be like that.
Deleted Mannn cookies, did not work.

Contact your library to find out how to delete the "overdue" book(s). They probably deal with this sort of thing a lot.

As to your logging in issue, I don't have a clue how to fix that, as what we've suggested should have already worked: delete all cookies (there are typically more than one for MacNN), click the little "remember me" box in the login dialog, and when you leave the site just leave - don't log out. That should have done it.
