I'm not a big golf fan but I hope he's ok and recovers quickly. He's always been a classy athlete and it bothers me to no end when an athlete at the top of their game is injured, even if its an athlete I don't particularly like playing for a team I don't like.

TMZ is reporting his little Swedish meatball did all the damage to his face.

Tiger Woods did not suffer facial lacerations from a car accident. They were inflicted by his wife, Elin Nordegren -- according to a conversation Woods had Friday after the accident.

Tiger has yet to be formally interviewed by the Florida Highway Patrol -- that should happen this afternoon. But we're told Tiger had a conversation Friday -- with a non-law enforcement type -- detailing what went down before his Escalade hit a fire hydrant.

We're told he said his wife had confronted him about reports that he was seeing another woman. The argument got heated and, according to our source, she scratched his face up. We're told it was then Woods beat a hasty retreat for his SUV -- but according to our source, Woods says his wife followed behind with a golf club. As Tiger drove away, she struck the vehicle several times with the club.

Tiger WoodsWe're told Woods became "distracted," thought the vehicle was stopped, and looked to see what had happened. At that point the SUV hit the fire hydrant and then hit a tree.

We're also told Woods had said during the conversation Friday he had been taking prescription pain medication for an injury, which could explain why he seemed somewhat out of it at the scene.

I used to get annoyed when hearing Tiger Woods for Buick commercials on the radio. He'd say something like "... and that's why I drive a Buick Lesabre" or whatever. I friggin' knew he wasn't driving any Buick LeSabre.

Turns out, he drives an Escalade. My mind is now at ease.

On another note, when media showed the day following the accident, there was a different, dark, unblemished 2009 Cadillac Escalade in the driveway. When you're Tiger Woods and you smash up anything, a full replacement arrives within the day. It must be nice.

Its his own fault for getting married before the age of 40.
He never bothered to enjoy his wealth and fame. In his position I would have retired from golf once i reached 500 million and boozed and whored myself out for a good decade before rejoining the Tour.

First of all, wow...

Secondly, people with egos like Tiger's have to have someone to bring them back down to earth. When you get married, you stop sleeping around. Period. When you have a child, that puts even more responsibility on your shoulders to not be an arrogant, philandering scumbag. She doesn't have to "put the clamp down on him" in a way that makes him unable to travel and have a good time, but she does need to tell him, "Look, you either want to be a husband and a father, or just a father. If you want to sleep around, do it as a single man."

His blowups on the course are forgivable in the sense that it's what makes him the golfer he is. He still comes off like a little brat, but I'm sure his fans just say that indicates how driven he is to attain perfection (much like our MJ thread).

Cheating on a spouse is selfish and destructive. If he wants to whore around, then he should get divorced.

I still don't see the big deal. Passionate players do this all the time. You ever been to a basketball game and sat courtside? You hear guys going at it up and down the court. Football you hear players AND coaches. Boxing, you hear it in the corner all day long. Hell, you even hear it in NASCAR at times on the radios.

Moral of the story... Don't stick a mic in someones face in the heat of battle, if you don't want your feelings hurt. That goes in ANY sport.

David Robinson has no personality and no rings. As for Bill Russell, I'm willing to bet the lack of media coverage of the 60s probably makes him look kinder than he actually was. He was a competitor at heart.

All the Spurs championship teams were forgettable (but efficient). They really needed a vengeful, ego maniacal, philandering, ungracious Hall of Famer to draw more attention to them.

Russell was a cold bastard who didn't give autographs or acknowledge fans. He had three wives, which is probably a little unusual for a guy born in the early 30s. He didn't even go to his jersey retirement or Hall of Fame induction.

I mean, a lot of that might have been because he was really sensitive to the racism that pervaded his era, but he was still famous for being as surly a person as they come by all accounts.

Actually, reading a good portion of Bill Simmons' Book of Basketball this last week, this is probably mostly true. Regardless, he wasn't the outright arrogant type, which is most of my problem with a lot of athletes. I don't mind someone being aggressive, even "surly," as you put it (always a fun word); I just have a problem with those who are consumed with themselves.

Wilt Chamberlain was supposedly a much nicer guy in public, but was selfish even when he was leading the league in assists. Didn't like him.

While that's not the lifestyle choice I would make (and I teach my students traditional, Christian sexual ethics), Wilt was never married during his conquests.

(EDIT) - I'm aware people make mistakes, but unapologetic adulterers just kind of get under my skin. I've had several friends (and two close family members) who were hurt by it.
