I am thinking of driving to ikea to buy a bed closest one to me is in atlanta which is about 4 hours aways. I really like their bedroom furniture, but how is the quality. Was thinking of this one

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79839331

also can I use a regular mattress with their beds? just don't use the box springs?

IKEA doesn't have a store in TN? There's a surprise.

They're just breaking into the US, but they've had a mail order/internet presence for some time, so the OP will have no problems in getting it.

Actually, I was implying IKEA knew their target audience wasn't in Tennessee.

I wouldn't say cheap. Inexpensive yes but not cheap. I picked up some closet organizers from them and they were no different then others that were selling them for more. Of course we could have purchased California closets and spent over 8k but instead we spent under 1K and got some really functional well built organizers.

they will only ship a few of their items and they charge more than the furniture itself costs, it'd be cheaper to drive down and pick it up.

By and large I agree, but factor in the cost of gas for the hour trip.

Cheaper if you consider your time worthless.

True. It blows my mind every once in a while, when someone quotes something that I missed because of its time-traveling capabilities.

Edit: Enjoy the irony.

well to ship the bed dresser and 2 nightstands they want over $300 i'd rather spend $80 in gas and this way I can pick up some smaller items while i'm there and shop around.

Which is probably why they use such an expensive shipper. They are getting you to spend more by actually getting you in the store.

I shop at Ikea too, but it's far from high end.

Some of their bed frames are OK (although you have to assemble them yourself), but their mattresses generally suck.

The main draw of Ikea is that it's cheap, with designs that don't look hick. Just don't expect high quality.

Sort of. IKEA mattresses are actually considered to be decent quality - they tend to come up in the high third in consumer tests. One of the main reasons to buy an IKEA mattress is that they are manufactured according to Swedish health and safety laws - and they are far more stringent than anything we have in North America. So while local manufacturers are still allowed to use fire retardants that are linked to cancer, Sweden outlawed these substances decades ago, in the 1970s. As a result, IKEA had to find alternatives.

The old truth 'You get what you pay for' is also true at IKEA. Their cheap stuff is cheap for a reason, but their more expensive stuff lasts and is well build.

Yeah, if you like firm mattresses, IKEA has some good foam ones.

All those run-on sentences are making my brain hurt.
"Everything's so clear to me now: I'm the keeper of the cheese and you're the lemon merchant. Get it? And he knows it.
That's why he's gonna kill us. So we got to beat it. Yeah. Before he let's loose the marmosets on us."
