"Before al-Qaeda launched the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks against New York and Washington, Bush was stumbling in a presidency that many Americans felt was headed nowhere. As Bush took a month-long vacation at his Texas ranch in August 2001, his big issue was a plan to restrict stem-cell research on moral grounds.

Privately, Bush’s neoconservative advisers were chafing under what they saw as the complacency of the American people unwilling to take on the mantle of global policeman as the world’s sole superpower. The neocons hoped for some “Pearl Harbor” incident that would galvanize a public consensus for action against Iraq and other “rogue states.”

http://www.consortiumnews.com/2006/070306.html

It all seems very plausible to me. Bush before 9/11 was nothing. He was only re-elected because Americans felt that he was the only one willing to wave flags and run with guns to "protect" Americans from terrorists. It is all about creating fear and offering a means of protection to get people to do whatever you want them to do.

Judging by polls it seems Americans are waking up to what the rest of the world saw years ago and next election he won't be re-elected again.

SWG, what Brussell is saying is that a US president can only serve two terms. After that, they must step down.

That's why popular presidents like Reagan and Clinton were only around for two terms.

I really doubt the Constitution is going to be changed so Bush can serve another term.

Me too. Even most of his Republican party members are sick of him already. They'd rather take their chance with someone new I think.

Bush doesn't dare revoke the Presidential term limits. Clinton -Bill, not Hillary- has voiced some interest in such a thing, and so if the limits are repealed Bush would find himself up against another Clinton/Gore ticket. For better or for worse, Bush stands no chance against Bill Clinton in an election, and he knows it.

One would then have to ask how much of his murder had to do with people thinking JFK was so great.

Meaning I doubt if JFK would have such a following had he not been assassinated.

Just like I don't think a lot of people would have been had they not died young.

I think he was more charismatic and sympathetic than Reagan. That's all you need to win a presidential election, so I go for JFK.

How about Nixon vs Reagan? Arnold would vote Nixon.

"The Skynet Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line 2008. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Schwarzenegger begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, voters try to pull the plug.

So, no one wishes to discuss the claim that the CIA concluded that Bin Laden Bush to win the 2004 election?

Is there something to discuss? OBL had a lot to gain if Bush won the election.. but OBL isn't a registered voter.

Thanks for the fix.

I think the issue at hand is whether OBL wanted Bush in the Whitehouse, and if that is an opinion shared by the CIA.

Well.. OBL had more to gain with Bush in the Whitehouse for another 4 years. Kerry would have succeeded in calming the Iraq civil war.

Anything is possible if there is political will for it. OBL wanted Bush as president, I don't know if CIA agrees. Even if they had intelligence either way, would you trust it?

Two words that shouldn't be used together in the same sentence. Unless they are used separately.

Fox and News.

What a joke!!

In the thread about Ann Coulter I pointed out how MSNBC called Ann's latest book a 'screech.' True or not, they're definitely not remaining unbiased. It goes both ways, so don't try and claim that your side is innocent and the other side should be damned to hell.

So bin Laden helped Bush by saying that he wanted Kerry to win. I can agree with that.

What I can't agree with is the "reverse-reverse pshychology" thing you all have going on here, where bin Laden wanted Bush to win, so he said he wanted Kerry to win.

Just makes me think of the Princess Bride when Vizzini and Dread Pirate Robert have their battle of wits with the iocane powder.

"You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia." But only slightly less well known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line."

...and a lot less known is this: "Always vote for who bin Laden wants you to vote for because who he wants you to vote for is actually who he wants to lose!"

INCONCIEVABLE!
