Due to the holiday season, these Jared commercials have gotten absurd. I think they play once every commercial break during the shows I watch, or perhaps I'm extremely unlucky.

Anyway, during the last commercial break the jewelers commercial was followed immediately by a Subway commercial. So after "He went to Jared!" repeatedly, the scene changes to "Jared here, and I (subway spiel)."

For some reason this sent me into spasms of laughter, and I just thought I'd share.

I HATE those Jared's commercials. Jared's is your basic, consumer level jewelry store, with nothing more to offer than Kays, or Helzburg's or Gordon's except a fancy ad campaign. And it's ALL BASED ON MAKING PEOPLE JEALOUS, NOT THE (supposed) QUALITY OF THE PRODUCTS. It makes me crazy.

Do you want GOOD jewelry? Find a local jeweler who cares about his merchandise and has a real craftsman (or a few of them) in back making things correctly. I have one such jeweler around here, and I have had a number of pieces custom made for my wife-for hundreds less than the mall jewelry stores could possibly offer if they ever bothered to come up with interesting designs themselves.

This goes way beyond "She'll pretty much have to". Diamonds are a well-recognized racket. But consumer jewelry stores are a much worse racket.

Jared was one of the places we shopped when my wife (then fiancee) and I were shopping for wedding rings a couple of years ago. We didn't see anything we liked initially, and the nice-guy salesman passed us off to another guy who hit us with the hard sell (the "deal-closer" I guess). We walked out. Now when one of those Jared commercials comes on we reminisce about how much we hate Jared.

We ended up buying from a local jeweler -- who just went out of business a couple months ago.

I remember when Jared first came to the Tulsa area a few years back. Their radio ads were some of the most annoying things I had ever heard. And now these horrible TV spots.

I'm single enough that I'm not having to think about where to buy jewelry, but when the opportunity arises Jared is permanently off the list of candidates.
