Time once again for another episode of The MacNN Podcast, this time episode 22! Since it was quite a notable week, this week's chat between Editor Charles, Managing Editor Mike, and staffers Michelle, Bradley, and Sanjiv is pretty jam-packed. The big story of the week was the launch of Apple Music, and we spend time on both the good and bad of that, but we talk about a lot more as well. Show notes after the jump.

Among the topics we tackle (beyond a quick tour of the new Music and iTunes features, and some of its attendant glitches -- hey folks, it's been one week! -- we take a look at a variety of more technical issues as well, including Apple's new (but tepid) support of Trim for third-party drives (well, sort of -- there's a catch or two involved), the removal of DiscoveryD from OS X and iOS (but not Apple TV yet), a look at the Apple Watch a few weeks on, and a more serious look at how technology plays a role in healing.

01:08 Following introductions, we dive into our first few days of Apple Music (both the free and paid features). We talk about each of the major features, and compare notes on our experience. So far, the judgement on the service itself is -- great, and what's more we think there's enough there for nearly anyone (even a classical music fan!) could get enough out of it to justify the $10 per month.

21:41 Our two favorite features of Apple Music (specifically the paid service) are the "For You" recommendations page, and the new Siri commands to play music. The "For You" suggestions page, which includes playlists of all types, album suggestions and more, are in the experience of our panel just staggeringly good and accurate in terms of suggesting top-quality stuff, even to those of us with very diverse music tastes. Tell Siri to play something -- from specific to very vague, like "a sad song from the 70s" -- is one of those "I'm living in the future" moments (until you realize that you still don't have a hovercar).

29:09 While we are enthused about the launch, that is not to say that it is all sunshine and unicorns in Apple Land. In particular, users of iTunes 12.2 have reported some issues, such as mismatched art or tagged music being mis-tagged. There's also a concern about Apple's Music's return to DRM files for songs one downloads from the paid service to listen to offline. We get to the bottom of the mysteries, and we're working on testing a fix for the mismatched music.

33:57 We talk about SSD upgrades using third-party drives, and Apple's lack of support for the Trim command to help keep these non-Apple SSDs running their best. OS X 10.10.4 has now restored support for third-party SSDs, but there are some complications about who should -- and who shouldn't -- enable the built-in Trim support, not to mention the potentially-intimidating method one must use to enable it.

41:27 Speaking of tricky issues, Managing Editor Mike had a lot of problems -- along with a number of readers -- with networking issues that turn out to have been caused by DiscoveryD. Apple, after waiting arguably longer than it should have in the hopes it could fix it, gave up and restored the networking technology that was used prior to OS X Yosemite and iOS 8, mDNSResponder. We talk about what's fixed and what still needs to be done.

49:43 Due to a family health emergency, Mike has had an opportunity to discover first-hand exactly how new mobile devices -- particularly the iPad -- has been adopted by hospitals as a key medical tool helping with recovery from injuries or illnesses, such as stroke.

56:22 Sanjiv stops by to talk about his own Apple Watch, and what a difference its made to him. Like many others we've heard from, he's loving the ability to read, sort, and reply to text messages on the device. However, he does have something of an unusual request for Apple to work on.
