Can I be in an Audi S6? I hear they're awesome at everything.

They're better on the road than your Jeep. Better handling/braking/acceleration/top speed/response/comfort.

To some, the "comfort" aspect is pretty relative. My most memorable moment in a Jeep was riding in the passenger seat when the driver intentionally put the vehicle in a "headstand" on its front bumper. This was a CJ-5 I think; solid, rugged and no-frills. I doubt any Audi (or Mercedes, or BMW, and certainly no Honda) could survive even a bit of a lean with the full vehicle weight on the bumper, while my friend's Jeep just sat there, very stable and solid. In perspective, in the same location I got to ride in a (then new) HMMV; the seats has "cushions" that were at most 1" thick on top of completely flat and unsuspended seats. The ride was horrendously bumpy. (Again, this was the real deal, not the "Hummer" crap people bought into.) My friend's Jeep was a cushy ride compared to the HMMV, with better braking and acceleration and steering too.

All of it's relative. Rob can go on about how fast his car is (etc.), but I reckon he'd bottle it on our roads a long time before he hit his machine's maximum capabilities.

Don't need to look it up. Went house hunting on it a while back. Lovely ranch just south of it on Rist Canyon Road (12 miles west of Fort Collins).

I submit Ranch Road 2222 outside Austin as a challenge. Twisty, turny, not really wide in spots. It was great on 2 wheels back when I lived in Austin. Scary great, of course.

But none of those compare to I-80 in Iowa - hundreds of miles of flat, straight road surrounded by cornfields. Oh..wait...

Some Jeeps are rather cool… but you better go out and pick one with a Benz engine while they last and sell the one with that sucky VM engine. I mean, how old is it !?

You want to make it a matter of SUVs… cause you know VW Audi are beyond gay.

2nd. an Audi car
3rd. a VW car
4th. a VW car

Oh yeah, Audi and VW SUVs suck because you can actually fit people in them, carry cargo, and tow a decent amount with a TDI. That's much worse than the X6 which can't do any of that. The TDI V6 Toureg sucks because it can pull 7,500lbs and get 26 mpg. Who would want that? I'd much rather have a useless "4-door coupe" that can't do anything and costs a lot more.

If it's a X5 wannabe, wouldn't it be an apple to apple comparison?

You're the one who's babbling on like the typical BMW driver who's simply obsessed with the badge cachet.

Still apple to oranges. Why don't you compare the VW to the X5?. That would be an apple to apple comparison. It is not BMW's fault the Touareg is the only option VW gives to you. That easy.

Both of you might have a great knowledge when it comes to the engineering side of cars, but when it comes to how to market them, you know near to nothing, nada. Denying that seating four even when you could do five is not a luxury statement is dumb, and you keep believing you're right. Tell me, why oh why, some of the best luxury cars do offer that as an option instead of the ability to seating five that comes as standard from the factory. Why would anyone want to pay some good additional bucks to worsen such a car?.

Or like blaming Christopher Bangle, even when downinflames68 is an industrial designer none the less, and rather good, it seems. So he has the background, then what does fail?. He has already answered it, though. He hates BMW drivers. Tell me, do you really think that Adrian van Hooydonk is any different (to Bangle)?, then you're 100% wrong, ask the 7 Series about it.

Both of you don't understand that attention is the most precious commodity. Difference gets attention. So, be different, and act different. Disrupt. Provoke. BMW has been doing it all these years, and countless cars have been trying to mimic Bangle and van Hooydonk flame design language.

Which gives you great positioning, this is created, not constructed, hence I had wrote "But of course if all you're trying to do is to bring another Mercedes CLS wannabe to the market, you fail. Miserably. Like Audi." -Page 2-- If you don’t create a compelling position for you, others are more than happy to do it for you. Mercedes-Benz hit the nail on the head. So other makers had no option but to follow. Never follow? HA!!

I don't even know why I am trying to explain this, cause you obviously don't care. All you like to say about the X6 or the 5 GT is 'they are useless cars'. I guess you hate getting some lessons from a female cause you have a rock-star status over here. No problem, I can find another board with, maybe, nicer people. It can't be that hard, believe it or not, the internet is, still, bigger than your ego.

Be happy with your Audi, Honda, JEEP… but remember that the tough thing about consistency is that you have to stick with it.

My sincerest apologies to ghporter, Cold Warrior and the nnforums staff.
Bye.

And the result of this is that right now, the only new car I would consider buying is the Range Rover Sport. Because all the others are hideous, over-designed bags of crap. Like the X6.

Funny, having worked/interned at a dealer, I would say the exact opposite.

I think you missed the part when I said I liked BMW, but hate the X6.

PS: What's with all these noobs coming in, making big deal about something, then leaving?

i have a b6 a4 avant with coilovers and 18" OEM Audi USPs. I actually have the car of my dreams.... sure an s4 or rs4 avant would be great but this one and i are just fine together.... understated but people do look twice .

Nice. Love dropped wagons. The only reason I got the S6 over the A6 was that they didn't offer the A6 wagon with a manual transmission.

The 2.8 Avant is too heavy to be a decent drive anyway. Although I guess a manual would be a tad lighter.

It's not the weight, it's the fact that more gears = greater advantage for every situation, as well as more control. Automatics make controlling a car a lot more annoying, even for things like simple acceleration.

I understand that, but, having driven 2.8 Avants, the motor simply isn't up to the task of moving the thing around (at least at this altitude) with any sort of haste.
