I'm wondering how much it will have in common with the rest of the album. "Speed of Sound" was pretty different from the rest of X&Y. I guess now we'll just have to wait.

I should finally have the Portishead 3 today.

Also, here's a recommendation for the week: Daydreamin' (f/ Jill Scott) by Lupe Fiasco.

I'm not a huge fan of Lupe, but he chose a sample that reminded me of Hooverphonic. The history of the song is convolutes: .It's based on a Europop song called Daydream by Wallace Collection. This in turn was covered a few years later by Gunter Kallmann, which was the sample used by I Monster, who added secondary vocals, and it appears Lupe used that (I Monster) version for the sample in his song.

Anyway, give it a try.

Edit: If you don't like Hip/hop, try one of the other versions in the history.

Daydreamin' has been far overplayed here. My girlfriend skips it every time it comes on these days :/

Well, it should be noted I listen to no radio and do not watch Mtv. I have no idea how much airplay it gets.

So apologies if I just pimped a horrendously overplayed song you all know about.

It got a fair bit of airplay straight after Kick Push many moons ago (a year maybe?). I believe it was the second single from his debut.

I don't listen to radio and I don't own a TV so I wouldn't be able to tell you exact. When I said overplayed - I meant in my household/car

I spent like 20 minutes last night trying to track down a copy of the Gunter version, and it is damn near impossible. Which is okay, because the rest of the song isn't quite how I might have imagined. Oh and for where all thoughts converge:

I've spent the past two days listening to Coldplay's "Viva la Vida" about 1,000 times. I didn't sync my iPod up to my computer in time to match up to my last.fm account (this skewed the results a bit), but whatever...

If you pre-order the album on iTunes, they give you the title track, which is much, much better than "Violet Hill," in my opinion.

I really need to stop synching my iPod's Friday plays on Saturday or Sunday. It keeps screwing up my stats on the week.

Yep, they fit my mood one day. Good for them, too, as they were steadily slipping down my last.fm chart.

I had an idea for the thread. Post your iTunes Top 25 -- for a specific decade. Maybe we should start with the 90s and work our way back over the course of a few weeks?

Gets out iPod...

Again, due to the way I listen to my music my top 25 is quite skewed, so here are the last 25 tracks I listened to on my iPod.

English Translations of song titles in parentheses.

1. Vrag Naj Vzame - Rebeka Dremelj - Eurovision 2008 Official CD (To Hell With It [literally "Go to Hell"])
2. Hanome - Peggy Zina - Ta prota hronia (I'm losing it)
3. Toses meres... toses nihtes - Nikos Kourkoulis - Toses meres... toses nihtes (So many days... so many nights)
4. Pes mou ti katalaves - Nancy Alexiadi - Afta pou eiha oneirefto (Tell me what you understood)
5. Na oneirevome - George Dalaras - Erotiki prova (For us to dream)
6. Einai kati meres - C:Real - Invain (There are those days)
7. Qele, Qele - Sirusho - Eurovision 2008 Official CD
8. Part-Time Lover - Stevie Wonder - Stevie Wonder: The Definitive Collection
9. Roll With It - Steve Winwood - Roll With It
10. Sussudio - Phil Collins - Phil Collins: Hits
11. Mes' ta heria sou hanome - Antypas - Hrisi diskothiki 1990 (I'm lose myself in your hands)
12. Giati kale geitonissa - Stratos Dionysiou - Hrisi diskothiki 1968 (Why, sweet neighbor girl?)
13. Isos - Natassa Theodoridou - Natassa Theodoridou (Maybe)
14. Tora pou pas fandaros - Katy Grey - Hrisi diskothiki 1960 (Now where are you going, soldier?)
15. Ego eimai antras me pigmi - Stelios Kazantzidis - Tora (I am a man with a fist)
16. Lege me paliopedo - Stratos Dionysiou - 1960-1990 Trianta Hronia (Call me a bad boy)
17. Another One Rides the Bus - Weird Al Yankovic - Weird Al Yankovic
18. Veronica - Elvis Costello - Spike
19. Felitsa - Yanni - Dare to Dream
20. Lost In Your Eyes - Debbie Gibson - Greatest Hits
21. Pios ein' aftos - Marinella - George Zambetas, O pio kalos o mathitis (Who is that man?)
22. Den eisai edo - Despina Vandi - Deka entoles (You're not here)
23. Jambi - Despina Vandi - Special Edition (Jambi)
24. Harramt Ahebbak - Warda - Harramt Ahebbak (not sure of translation)
25. Olürüm Sana - Tarkan - Tarkan (not sure)

So, there's Greek, English, Arabic, Turkish, Slovenian (thanks to Eurovision), and Yanni. And if you haven't figured it out from looking at the list, I have a ton of 1980s music on there.

Yes, there's Yanni in there. Shut up.

If anyone is interested in some of the artists above, Peggy Zina, Nikos Kourkoulis, Nancy Alexiadi, C:Real, and Despina Vandi all have albums available on the US iTunes Store, and most of them are iTunes Plus, too (as they're all signed to Indie labels in Greece).

Most of the time I have it on Shuffle, but there are times when I'll listen to the same song over and over and over again. Consequently, my top 25 list has mostly songs that I've listened to 20-50 times, but many I haven't listened to recently in the last 6 months.

I also have a playlist called "Never Played" where all the recently loaded music goes. It's a Smart Playlist that has all songs with Play Count set to zero. As they're played, they drop off the list.

I'm up to 7811 songs total on my iPod, with tons more that I haven't loaded yet (still got a huge stack of CDs to run through). I hope to do a bunch this weekend and get up to 8000. My never played list is down to 180 entries.

EDIT: Oh, when I go on long road trips, I set up playlists that have mostly songs that I've played only 1-3 times, so I get to hear things I haven't listened to much. 80% minimally played songs, 20% heavily played (mostly my favorites).

I'd say that's pretty normal and accurate.

This year for new music has been the anti-thesis of last year for me. Last year my list never really dipped below 300 new songs added in the last x amount of days. This year it's rarely been over 150 songs added in the last x amount of days.

Hell, last year I was averaging something like 600 plays a week, this year I'm probably half that.

Actuall when I was in Turkey I was looking for good music but came up mostly empty handed - I think a Baba Zula album produced by Mad Professor and an excellent Mercan Dede album were the only things I kept in my rotation.

There's a great (well, I think it's great) album by a woman named Candan Erçetin (pronounced "Jondon Erchetin for people not familiar with Turkish pronunciation) called "Aman Doktor."

It's mostly traditional folk songs that have melodies common to Turkey and Greece. She sings them in Turkish and then sings a verse in the Greek version of each song. Her Greek is not too bad, either.

I mostly listen to my Last Quarter list, which holds the last three months of songs added to my iTunes. It currently holds 1373 songs. I just downloaded a heap of new stuff though, so let me test out Hazel first and see how that works first.

Utah Saints. Isn't that early 90s Dance?

The play distribution looks more like one of my lists.
