Meh. French teams have been in decline in Europe in recent years anyway. They really only have one big team now.

Football players have long been very good at avoiding paying much tax.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

75% on salaries in excess of €1 million/year, and it's up from something like 50% before.

The political decision was to add this extra tax bracket at the top as part of the efforts to reduce the deficit in the national budget. It doesn't add a lot to the budget, but it's a way to show that everyone contributes when the benefits and services for the less fortunate are slashed . This article is about a court ruling on how to apply the tax - in some countries, athletes are taxed according to a different scheme, and the French clubs wanted something similar.

Apparently not 1 person who works at a company in France and earns over €1 million will be impacted by this. An accountant was on the TV explaining how easy it was to get around this. In fact its quite similar to the usage of Amazon and Google and Starbucks in how they reduce their tax payments.

You just take a $1 salary with a $50 million bonus.

They're looking to outlaw that as well, on an EU level - there is a proposal to outlaw bonuses larger than 100% of the base salary. The City (The London equivalent of Wall Street) is going absolutely apeshit over it. It's not very far along yet, but the only people against it seem to be England.

Take a $1 salary, "donate" $50 million to your shell company, get a huge tax write off.
