I installed OS9 on my early model iMac and could not print from my HP DeskJet 695C. I found the driver at the HP website and downloaded it, but I think my computer didn't unstuff it correctly or something, because the icon on the desktop looks like a sheet of paper with the corner folded over. When I clicked on it to complete the installation process it gave me a message that it could not find the application that created it and therefore could not open it. It gave me a long list of my applications and told me to choose one. I tried a few other things, but finally just chose one randomly to see what would happen (Adobe Acrobat). That, of course, was not the right one, and now it keeps trying to open Acrobat every time I click on it. I tried throwing the driver icon in the garbage and reinstalling it, but it automatically comes up as belonging to Adobe Acrobat even when I re-download it. Aack! Is there anything that will bring me back from the hell that my own stupidity has created? Will I ever print again?!

Thanks for any suggestions.

I've had many problems with printer drivers myself.
Do a new download. Make sure Netscape saves the new file - if it doesn't auto unstuff sometimes Netscape trashes a downloaded file.
If the file does indeed fail to unstuff automatically then drag it onto Stuffit expander.
If there is a problem with the file you have every right to call HP tech support about it.
Do an extensions off restart before installing. Complex installers like this and such as RealVideo always require an extensions off restart before installing.

Martin,

Thanks so much for your suggestion! After many weeks of no printing, I printed out a beautiful test document last night. I just can't tell you how relieved I am.

Thanks again.
Sara
