How does the iBook's Keyboard control panel turn the volume up/down with the function keys?

Does Apple include applescripts to do this on iBooks?
I'd like to do the same thing on our iMac DV.

If you are comfortable with writing Applescripts it provides the capability to change the volume. You can find an example of this within Apple's script "Set the volume to maximum" (in either the "Speakable Items" or "More Speakable Items" folders supplied with PlainTalk Speech Recognition).

The Applescript command is:

set volume 7

You should also be able to get the present volume so you can adjust it upward or downward, but I haven't tried this.

A simpler method,
In the speakable items folder are applescripts to adjust volume. Using the keyboard control panel, map your desired function keys to the appropriate scripts in the speakable items folder.

You may have to install speakable items to attain this functionability, from the 8.6 CD.
