I'm having problems playing audio CD's. I first noticed the problem after installing QT4. After having installed 8.6, it won't even boot with an audio cd in the drive. When I eject the cd, booting continues. When I insert an audio CD after startup, it hangs until I eject the CD. What could be wrong?

I am having a problem playing audio CDs. I can mount the usual (data) CDs, but I can't get audio CDs mounted. Each time I insert an audio CD, I get a dialog box informing
me the volume cannot be read ... would I like to initialize it?

I have checked the QuickTime 4.0 settings, but that doesn't seem to help. I tried the suggestion (Alexander Koren) of reverting back to the Apple CD/DVD Driver 1.0.1 (OS 8.5), but to no avail.

If it helps, I have OS 8.6 installed on an 8100/100AV with a NewerTech MAXpower G3 PDS (240/160 MHz) upgrade installed.

I had a simialr audio CD problems after installing 8.6. In addition I have a CoolDVD Drive and could not get any DVD's to play. I reverted Back to Apple CD/DVD Driver Version 1.1 (I think it came with 8.5.1). My Audio CDs and DVDs work again. Give this a try.

I have apparently solved my problem. I found a system extension aptly named Audio CD Access that appears to be part of OS 8.5. However, it does not show up in Extension Manager.

After placing it in the Extensions Folder, I could once again play CDs.
