Yes, I have one of those too and I had it replaced under the Apple recall programme and now it happens again. Recall programme no longer in effect.

So now I like to remove it myself as the MBP is still in good working order.

But there is the snag. I tried many things and there is about 1/3 of the screen that refuses to give up the coating. To put you in the picture of what I used and did not work. Hope if did not forget one as I maybe forgot one after all the days that I am at it.

Baby wipes
Baking soda mixture
Carpet-cleaner fluid
Coke (as in the drink 😊)
Deferent kinds of glass/window cleaner
Disinfectant in several forms
Disinfecting wet wipes
Hand soap
Isopropyl alcohol
Listerine
Nail polish remover
Oil
Sticky tape
Toilet cleaner
Toothpaste
Washing-up liquid different brands

All of them I used by rubbing and some I used by letting it soak and next rub. Some I used in combination by mixing them.

As you may guess I am a bit desperate here. And I figure I am not the first on the be here. So, who has a solution that is not available on the internet. Believe me I ploughed the internet for at least 2 hours. But most of it reaps the same solutions, the Listerine or Baby wipes method.

I'm not sure what I'm looking at. Is the visible keyboard a reflection? I was hoping more for a shot of the full screen, so we could see if the problem is in the center, on the periphery, or has no clear pattern.

Thanks for fixing the image. Not sure I understand how to do it.

The MBP is laying on its back and you see indeed the reflection of the screen. The sides are clean no residue there, the pattern you see is more or less on the whole screen.

I will try to post another image in a bit.

About the pic, much better. Have you tried packing tape? ie - apply a strip of clear packing tape. Then slowly peel it off the screen. It just might pull the laminate away too. Or soften it up enough for rubbing alcohol to work.

My go-to solvents are water, alcohol, mineral spirits (paint thinner) and acetone. Ranked from safest (water) to most penetrating (acetone).

I have to assume that Apple has definitively said that your machine won’t be covered by the extended anti-reflective coating repair program. If you haven’t investigated it, and for anyone else who’s wondering “what the heck is Staingate,” look HERE for just one site talking about the program.

I have no personal experience from which to offer advice. My 2015, 13” MBP’s screen just takes up skin oils from my keyboard; I have no stains, per se. I use a microfiber keyboard cover to keep the keys from actually touching the screen, but I should probably clean the cover more often than I do. That would probably reduce the amount of cleaning I need to do.

The pattern on the screen suggests the laminate degrades with light exposure, probably UV light leaking in while the laptop is closed. So it came off cleanly around the perimeter, except a little at the bottom hinge corners. With the middle being erratic.

You could get in the habit of leaving the screen open and exposed to sunlight when not in use. Might take weeks or months before the central laminate degrades, but you plan to keep the laptop anyway - so why not let Mother Nature do the work. If my theory is right, the central laminate will presently become removable, though I've no idea how long it will take.

a sun lamp? no idea. not even sure the UV is the way to follow.

I understand there are places who claim they can get the lamination off. There’s certainly a market for that service.

No idea if they’re any good, but it’ll probably cost less than $600.

Yeah, I saw those places, phoned one and they did not give a money back warrantee. I had to take the risk and pay. And they want 80 or more.

Further research showed me a product from France that claims to solve it. ‘4STARSCLEAN KIT - Cleaning Spray’. I am suspicious if that would work. I suspect it is no more powerful than any of the things I tried. Has anybody out there tried this?
