So my order shows as:
Order Date: Oct 14, 2008 at 11:07 AM PDT

Custom configuration
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB

Ships: 2 - 4 Business days
Delivers: 20 Oct - 24 Oct

Ordered from the Canada store. Normally I would upgrade the ram part myself but the price was close enough and availability of DDR3 laptop ram still sucks.

Oct 16: Shipped but missed cut off time for Fedex
Oct 17: Left Shanghai, CN
Oct 18: Arrived in Toronto via Anchorage, AK and Newark, NJ. Stuck in Customs
Oct 20: Left Toronto but not scanned
Oct 21: Arrived in my city, Out of Delivery
Oct 21 11:45am: Delivered into my hands. 1 day after initial arrival estimate before plane was missed but 1 day before revised estimate after it was stuck in customs.

Same custom configuration for me plus the adaptor to drive the previous ADC… but d'oh, we europeans have to wait at least 7 days until the MBP ships… so still no estimation for me.

Also from the Canada Store, refurb MacBook with FireWire ordered yesterday:

Product Name: RFB MB 13.3/2.1/2X512/120/CMBO:WHITE-USA

Product Number: FB402LL/A
Unit Price CAD: $899.00

Ships: 1 - 3 business days
Delivers: 17 Oct - 24 Oct

I'm getting RAM locally. 4 GB of PC2-6400 800 MHz DDR2 (which is overspec'd) goes for $58 (after $20 rebate).

I ordered the basic MacBook and it's already left Memphis! I'll get it tomorrow.
I'm thinking of visiting a store today to check out the glass trackpad, as I'm suddenly worried I won't like it. I'm also a little nervous about the FireWire thing.

Which store was it? I called this morning and they said they weren't expecting them until the end of the week… I'd like to pick one up tomorrow.

Sherway Gardens Apple Store

Apparently 4/5ths of the units they got were MacBooks. Only 1/5th Pros.

I was at the Eaton Centre Apple Store this afternoon. They had zero. I suspect they'll have them available tomorrow.

Strange. This is what I'm getting when I check my order status at Apple, instead of with FedEx directly.

I drove down to Bellevue and picked up a Pro. :-) They were all out of the high-end model at Lynnwood, Tukwila, and Bellevue, but the lower-end was available. I'll just upgrade the RAM and HD myself sometime. The bump in CPU speed and more VRAM don't really matter to me.

Mine (with printer) is only about 15 miles from here, at the local Fed Ex place. Hopefully it will be in the 10 a.m. time frame, and not the 2 p.m. one that are typical for my neighborhood. There are two Apple stores within about 25 miles of me. I wonder what their in-store stock was like. I was tempted to go out yesterday to see the new machines in the store, but didn't want to give up the 2-plus hours that wold have taken, even thogh I was dying to try them out.

Wednesday really is anything can happen day. I was bold and walked into a local Apple Store on Wednesday morning. The old notebooks were on display and the store was fairly quiet. After talking to an employee, he excused himself for a couple of minutes. The Manager walked up to me carrying a box containing the new MBP. I checked it out and was quite impressed so I walked out with the 2.4 model about 11:30. Who needs a tracking number when gas is now $3.45 a gallon?

Just got my shipment notification from Apple. Original shipment was said to be 3 - 5 days. It shipped less than 2 days after my order was placed.

I ordered a MacBook Pro with 2.8ghz and 320GB 7200rpm hard drive on Tuesday. Can't wait for it to get here. It is due for delivery Monday Oct 20.

Well, now I have. My pictures are awful, so I'm definitely not going to post any. But it's great! It found the network, got it all registered, etc. I have .mac, so I synced my contacts and calendar and bookmarks. I have decided I want to really start fresh, so I'm not going to migrate too much stuff, though I certainly like the idea of migrating my mail, etc. settings. Other than that, I think I'll take it slow in terms of bringing over applications.

I have to play with the trackpad some more, but so far, so good. It's very, very nice looking. Feels quite a bit more bigger than my 12-inch PB.

But for now, I'm back at my iMac, trying to get actual work done.

Arrggh. Mine's supposed to arrive tomorrow... at work.

Unfortunately, I'm off Friday and Monday, which effectively means I don't get the laptop until Tuesday unless I specifically go to work just to pick it up.

I picked up a 2.53ghz mbp this afternoon at the Sherway store in Etobicoke (Thanks Eug). The machine is great, I wasn't sure if I could enjoy the glossy screen but comparing it with the last revision mbp, glossy and matte models, I had little problem going with it. Sure I can see my outline right now as I type this but I have a window behind me… it's just not the issue I thought it would be.

I have to say that the trackpad click is a little awkward, I find myself trying to click the case often and I don't have the whole click, drag, drop motion down yet either.

I'm coming a 2ghz Powermac and 867mhz 12" powerbook… it's a very nice upgrade.

I have a window behind me too.

In the early morning when the bright light shining through, it can be really annoying with my MacBook. However, in the afternoon, it's not an issue.

You've got to hand it to Apple when it comes to packaging. I was amazed by the size of the box and the foam that is attached to the box instead of larger inserts. It has truly evolved from my old Powerbook G3 Wallstreet, G4 1.33 and MBP 2.4 which didn't stay very long but made a great impression.

I bought new MacBook Pro this afternoon at the Apple Store in Christiana Mall, Newark, DE. (no sales tax!!)
Finally, my 5-years-old PowerBook G4 can retire. In order to transfer files between PB G4 and new MBP, I have no choice but pay $29.95 for FW 800-400 cable. Compared with PB G4, I am very satisfied with new MBP. New MBP is much more quieter and cooler. As for the display, my old PB G4 experienced display replacement 4 times in 3 years because of dead pixes. So far, I have no problem with the glossy display.

$29.95?!?

$6.75 at Monoprice.

I think I paid $14.95 locally a couple of years ago. Or it may have been $19.95.

Has anyone spotted the 2.8 CPU in an Apple Store yet? Generally the top model shows up in stores not too long after release (despite being BTO in the online store).

The Apple store in Peabody Mass, had the top model MBP in stock. I don't have $2,500+ to throw around but it was available for me to buy if I had the cash

Mine must've been on the same cancelled flight as yours, Mike. I ordered last Tuesday afternoon, and after it was picked up by UPS it had a delivery date of Oct. 21. After the flight got cancelled, there's no longer a delivery date.

HOWEVER, it departed from Anchorage Oct. 18 at 11:22 PM and I haven't had an update since on the UPS tracking page. I'm still hoping it will arrive tomorrow since Louisville has a major UPS hub.

I just looked at mine.

Plane was missed in Shanghai just like Karim. Now it's stuck in customs in Toronto and the expected delivery date bumped back another day.

Last tracking activity:
Oct 18, 2008 7:11 AM Package available for clearance
Estimated delivery Oct 22, 2008 by 12:00 PM

Oh well. I knew doing a built to order configuration would delay it's arrival. I guess it's not a terrible thing. I have some work projects I need to keep working on the rest of today and tomorrow and the arrival of a new toy wouldn't help those get done.

Edit:
Oh no, work will suffer now. Customized Macbook just arrived.

Yup, same here.. Sigh.. I wonder where it goes after anchorage. Wherever that may be, since it was there saturday, it must have gotten to the continental states sometime Sunday (unless it went ground brown truck/train). I called UPS and the lady said that it may get here Thursday instead based off of the tracking info.. Who knows.. I just wish they'd scan it more so we can see the progress.
