It seems that, at least over here, 3G is the future as far as mobile phones go. Kate just got a new 3G phone with the '3' network and it is very funky.

Problem is, I can't find any 3G phones that work with Mac. 3 only offers about 8 phones, none of which are listed on Apple's iSync compatibility list.

So...anyone here have a 3G phone that works with your Mac? Or know of one? I rang 3 and they basically said "Uh, Macs...umm, we might be getting an Ericcson in our lineup later this year, it might work with Mac, but we're not really sure'.

Advice would really really be appreciated!!

Alas most 3g Phones are still pretty basic - as they still seem to be getting to grips with fitting the tech into a handset.

The best chance is a handset that I've seen over here in the UK - http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,46602,00.html (The Nokia 7600).

It's a Symbian Series 60 phone - so it's likely to have most of the pre-requisites - but alas isn't listed on the iSync page (do isn't currently supported.)

p.s. This is definitely not a lounge topic.

p.p.s. 3 (in the UK) are fscking Morons - in the UK they had a year headstart on all other 3g networks - and guess what - you aren't allowed to use your handset as a modem. (they do let you in Oz though...)

Hmm, 3 in Aus does have the Nokia 7600 listed. Although you are right, it isn't on the iSync lage, hopefully support can be added, since many other Nokia's are listed. I don't expect support for the LG phones anytime soon

Just so frustrating that the phones that are more 'tech savvy' (better net access, bandwidth etc) are the ones that don't work with Macs. And the modem feature will be a big plus for me. I can't believe they banned that in the UK??

Any other handset suggestions guys? Anyone on 3, or another 3G network? ..does the US even have a working 2G network yet?

Don't worry - the cravat's not compulsory!

I personally don't see too many problems with funky designs - after all we don't have beige PCs - do we...

I have however - made a mistake - it's not a Symbian Series 60 phone - it's just a Nokia Series 40 - http://www.t3.co.uk/reviews/default....bsectionid=669

Hmm, maybe you are right - http://www.mphone.co.uk/Ericsson/z1010.html
(Expansys has it on their site - but won't say when it's released):

Is this the same phone they showed at Cannes at about the same time as the P800 was released?

Okay, so this SE Z1010 has me exited that it may well be the first Mac-compatible 3G phone. After much searching on the net, it seems that it will be out in June/July - but no network/s have been specified yet. Either Three, or Vodafone's new 3G service. Hopefully both.

No word as to whether it is in fact Mac/iSync compatible yet, but I would hope it would be, given SE's current status as being one of the most mac-supporting phone companies.

Fingers crossed.
