The Genius recommendations are going to break me. I'll be happy when I can afford a hot meal at month's end!

Either you have way too few songs or REALLY obscure taste.

25 000+ songs and it is making better playlists then I ever could!

My issue is most of the songs I want a playlist for, I have nothing in my library that complements.

See: Hide & Seek
The Beginning is the End is the Beginning

For Hide and Seek I get:
Hide And Seek - Imogen Heap
In The Waiting Line - Zero 7
Teardrop - Massive Attack Collected
Galvanize - The Chemical Brothers
Where's Your Head At? - Basement Jaxx Rooty
Earth Intruders - Björk
The Rockafeller Skank (Mulders Urban Takeover Mix) - Fatboy Slim
Glory Box - Portishead
Cry for You (Spencer & Hill Remix) - September

Hide & Seek is unlike any other song so it's not to be expected to find much to complement it. I got an eclectic if weighted a bit heavily towards beat-y track mix.

The Beginning is the End is the Beginning? Do you mean The End is the Beginning is the End by Smashing Pumpkins? If that's the case it most definitely makes a very well matched playlist from it.

The half of those I know, definitely don't match.

I assumed as much, but I hoped I was wrong.

I have found that it relies too heavily on the genre of my music. When I make a genius playlist from a song of a certain genre every other song it chooses is from that genre. I'm sure it will get better over time though.

Another issue I've found is it can't distinguish remixes and live versions from the originals.

Try: The rest of the album which that song was originally released on.

The songs I'm referring to are either from a compilation or don't sound like the rest of the album.

That would probably be funnier if I hadn't give two (non-furtado) examples just a few posts above.
or I didn't have a few of her songs in my library

While I am not familiar with those songs, this isn't necessarily Genius' fault. If you take two tracks and ask two people, whether they match in terms of mood or not, you might get two different answers.

I don't say that these songs might not play very well together. Just that Genius is no right/wrong system. And it will improve over time, granting that people don't mix crap in their libraries.

try back in 6 months apple says it will get better. But maybe the G-list is not for you. I love it.
With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

It's either a problem of obscurity, or the reality of their uniqueness. With a few of the more common tracks I chose, I got some surprisingly good results. (Not counting that live/remix bug I pointed out)

I'm enjoying the Genius lists so far.

I set it for 100 matches and let it do its work. A few times it's pleasantly surprised me and pulled out some good songs that I haven't listened to in a long time. Every once in a while a selection will pop up that just doesn't make sense, but I'm not expecting perfection from Genius (yet). I just want it to make a decent playlist, and it's not doing a bad job so far.

I'm looking forward to seeing how much it improves, assuming that Apple's claim of a brighter Genius future isn't just more up-the-chute smoke blowing by Steve and Co.

I forget if it was someone on this forum that recommended it, but accessing genius through Party Shuffle is supposed to have some nice results.

They'll need to start with the in-store ones first.

Not really interested in the size of your iTunes penis. Sounds like you have way too many songs. So many that you can't possibly know what you have. So many that you're easily impressed by a script pulling from a dusty corner something you haven't heard in years, if at all.

Either that or you just aren't very good at making playlists.

So lets see what I get for AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie. Oh, what's this? "Genius is unavailable for the song 'Whole Lotta Rosie'." Must be REALLY obscure. Let's try CCR - Susie Q. OK, sounds pretty good so fa... Wait a minute! WTF are Megadeth, Suicidal Tendencies and Rage Against The Machine doing in here? F'n idiot "Genius."

I assume his "trying to bust your balls time and time again" goes somewhat beyond the scope of this thread, because for in here, it looks like you just flew off the handle.

You're probably right. That was a little harsh. However, it is completely unnecessary to try to denigrate my opinion of a thing by declaring that it's my fault. Especially so when my point (which I wholly attributed to myself) is valid through practice.

It would be like me declaring to the OP in my infinite superiority that if he likes the "Genius" feature he must be doing something wrong.

I usually like erik, and though I doubt I hurt his feelers, if I did then I apologize.

I'm busting your balls? Sorry, I can't differentiate you from the masses here, if I have offended you in the past I apologise

I honestly were just trying to figure out why genius isn't working for you when it's working so awesomely for me. I think a large and diverse library is key.

Oh and chill out. Maybe with some relaxing music

Just in case not everyone caught it, I found it myself by accident:

You can preview the genius Music Store recommendations by clicking the little note besides the track name. Very cool for me, since you dont have to go Music Store all over…
