Hacker #84 is a 10min short about 3 computer nerds in the mid 80s who engage in a hacking competition to find out who is the champion of the hack, and to see if one of them can achieve the impossible and get a girl.

Originally shot for anaglyphic 3D, this is a 2D transfer of the movie. Shot on two Sony TRV6s, cut in Final Cut Pro and composited in After Effects 4.1. All of the music was recorded and mixed on macs using Peak and various other sound apps.

Nice. I couldn't spot one thing that might have come from a later time period!

Most enjoyable... makes me realize how prevelant 80's culture was outside of the u.s. Not that it's a good thing, that is.

What a fun trip! I enjoyed this short, though I was very amused after the opening (showing a Commodore 64?) had a refererence to "never utilizing 64K" and then they all sat down at Macs...which had double that RAM, yes?

It was very interesting to see all the Macs -- was this done for the MacNN film competition? How many cameras were used in the opening room scene?

Nice spot. But, if you look closely, you'll see that the macs are actually a mac plus and 2 SEs. Pluses shipped with a whopping 1 meg, and the SEs i had were maxed out to 4mb.

Back in the day, just as it is now, console gaming required a lot less RAM than desktop machines, so for these guys, 64kb for a console was impressive.

I made this short for university, but knew that there would be a bunch of mac geeks out there who would get the jokes - so the macnn film comp was perfect.

In the opening scene, just as in the rest of the movie, 2 cameras were used. But they were mounted side by side, because the movie was origionally shot for anaglyphic 3D, which ended up working quite well. So it was a traditional single camera shoot, but for 3D.

I loved how they were rambling the damned keyboards at houndreds of words per minute yet staring at finder windows!!!!

Ever notice the computers just sat there, and the same modem (probably same mac too) appears in the car shop? Very good
