I realize that Intel machines use EFI. How do I protect my Mac (in my case a MacBook, but I think it will be all the same on every Intel Mac) as I was able to when I could enable the OF-password? I didn't find any Iformation on this in the Apple KB.

There should be be a utility on the OS X install disc (it might even still be called "Open Firmware Password") that will set the password. Unfortunately, that's the only way I know of to do it - Command-Option-O-F is no more.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Correct. On the Install Disc, navigate to Applications-->Utilities and then set the OF password there.
