The Indianapolis facility has only sorts packages in the evening/early morning. Ours missed the sort and so had to wait until the next one tonight. FedEx told me this evening that I may have mine in the morning delivery, but couldn't promise it before COB tomorrow.

Oh this is killing me! It's now 7:30pm, and my package supposedly arrived in Boston at 6:30pm (NOTE: I live in Boston). FedEx then got the crazy idea that I wanted the computer to take a scenic route through New Hampshire before delivery to my home in Boston (which is, incidentally, within walking distance of the Boston FedEx ramp). A call to FedEx didn't clear up the issue; in fact, there's a possibility that the package is still in Indianapolis. Why!?!?! Why?!?!?!

At least I have comfort in knowing that my computer is well-travelled.

And, if you want a truly amusing story, ask me to share with you the nightmare UPS put me through about a year ago when I sent my Dell off for repair. Oh golly.

On a positive note, the lady I spoke with at FedEx (who was, by the way, very polite) said that my package has now been flagged to receive "special attention." She said that doing so might help expedite the process of getting it to me. Heh heh.

Don't keep us in suspense, Windsor. Tell all!

Mine has finally left Indianapolis. Feels like it was there long enough to be allowed to register to vote.

Did a person tell you that? The automated tracking information system gives different information than the operators. If you're going to call, do it quickly. The Direct Distribution people close earlier than the rest of FedEx.

Yes, I called them. They said it has to go to O'Hare by plane first, which will happen TOMORROW, and they'll attempt delivery Thursday.

Seems awefully wacked to me.

do you guys regret not getting the Superdrives? Other threads say that they can come as early as next week. Some on the boards already have them as we speak.

I personally don't. I really didn't even consider it when I got my machine. I'm sorta peeved about Fedex though.

Yeah I felt the same way but I should be happy with what I have (or will have) I even got a good deal through ADC. Hey I hope you're not the Christina I know from Chicago

By the way, does everyone who paid $15 for expedited shipping say on Apple's tracking "Requested Carrier: BESTWAY 1 OR 2 DAY SERVICE"? Just wondering...

Yep, that is what mine said when I checked on www.apple.com/orderstatus However, then I received an email indicating it had shipped with a fedex tracking number.

That's Fedex for ya. Once I had a package delivered to me from a place exactly 10 minutes away. (I didnt know they were so close at the time) Fedex somehow decided that it would be better to send the package to Missouri before sending it back! Took an entire week to get it.

Ordered Friday 11/8/02 at 1PM CST PowerBook G4 1GHz/1024MB/60GB/Combo (student purchase). Just shipped 1AM Wednesday 11/13/02. Hoping for Saturday delivery, but maybe Monday or Tuesday is more realistic. Any thoughts?

Ordered my combo about the same time as you did, but i used the ADC purchase so it might take a little longer. Were you actively checking the status of your order? Mine is still "being reviewed" but I called Apple and they said that they are in the process of shipping it. So I dont think the tracking is accurate.

I've been checking pathologically (several times a day). It took me about 1 hour to make it through the "being reviewed" stage on Friday, then it stayed at "being assembled" until some time in the last two hours. Now I have a FEDEX number but it's not in the FEDEX system yet.

Edit: Just picked up by FEDEX, listed as on the way to Indianopolis.

For those that have ordered the 1ghz/superdrive: does anyone have an Order Staus other than "Being Assembled". Had I known that the Apple Stores would get stock first, I would not have placed an order online from Apple. It just seemed logical that Apple would fill backorders before it sent stock to its stores. Oh well, I just hope it comes before December.

Can't wait!

I ordered mine the first day, so that makes it a week now. It's still "Being Assembled".

If it's any consolation, it doesn't look like the stores here in Toronto are getting any of these any time soon either. Or at least I hope not because then I'll be irritated.

Damn you! You just had to rub it in didn't you.

Anyways, when you review it, please include the model of your hard drive (Fujitsu MHS 4200?), and the model of your combo drive.

If you don't already know:

Open the Finder --> Applications --> Utilities --> Apple System Profiler.

That will give you a summary of your hardware. Stuff like memory, vid card, etc. I believe are in the overall summary, and the drives are on the second tabbed page.

Fedex is now saying I won't get my laptop til Friday It left TPE at 19:56. Unfortunately I can't tell where it's headed. The Fedex site says the laptop is heading to San Jose, but from what people have said packages are either clearing customs in ANC or IND. Given the flight time to ANC is about 11 hours I guess there's still hope it will clear customs this afternoon and get to me tomorrow.

Taiwan is 13 hours ahead if you're in New York and 16 in San Francisco.

The freaking truck came. Wow, this is *so* much faster than my old 400MHz machine (like that should be a surprise!). The screen is much brighter, but I'm not sure if I like the keyboard as much. Anyway, now to transfer all my stuff over and reinstall all my software.

You know what is nice....

Firewire target disk mode. Mounted my G3 that I'd backed up all my old Quicksilver stuff to do, and copied all my data over the firewire cable.

If you buy from an Apple retail store (either in store or online) do you get the $40 double your RAM deal, or is that only good on Apple online store orders (not specific to one retail store)?

Thanks. NYC. Actually looks like it made it to the airport at 19:56. Fed Ex just told me it would be delivered Monday. Friday if there was no trouble with customs. I paid the $15 for 2 day. Seems like I should get it Friday.

The $40 double your RAM deal is good at the Apple brick and mortar stores as well as the Online store.

If you ask for it, they'll honor it (at the nyc SOHO store). However, they told me they wouldn't give me the student discount ($50 in the store) as well as the ram discount. Also, your only options are the 867 w combo drive and the 1ghz with superdrive. No 1ghz w combo available in store.

According to the online tracking, my dad has signed for the package. So it's there. I just have to wait another two more (or so) hours to get home and play with it.

No problematic pixels on mine. Everything seems to be in perfect condition. It'll be a few hours until
I get to play with it though.

I did a quick check of the system profiler before leaving home. Everything appears to be in order; I'm not exactly sure what you guys are wanting me to look for. I thought that the hard drive type/model was already established. If not though, I'd be more than happy to look up any info. Just tell me what you want me to find out, and I'll give the details in a few hours.

Thanks. All we know for sure is that:

JayTi's laptop has a 5400 rpm drive. Thus it is likely NOT a Fujitsu. It's also likely not representative either, since it's a pre-release model.

emerrill's laptop has a 4200 rpm Fujitsu drive. All I can find from Fujitsu in the 60 GB size is the MHS series. Thus it's probably that one but I've had no confirmation of that yet.

In any case, I have yet to find ANY review of the Fujitsu MHS series. Apple and Fujitsu seem to espouse the virtues of high-density platters, but nobody knows if the Fujitsu is really any faster than other 4200 rpm laptop drives.

Also, what's the model of the combo drive? Just wondering.

Thanks.

emerrill's laptop has a 4200 rpm Fujitsu drive.

Thanks.
