Nice weather here in Germany in october so i took the chance to spend one week in Schleswig-Holstein (northern part of G, the strip of land just below Danmark), visit some friends and enjoy the beautiful landscape.

The lighthouse Westerhever, one of the most famous lighthouses over here

Landscape in front of the big seadyke

My dreamhouse: An old frisean house roofed with "Reetgras", some type of rigid gras, that grows in the marshlands

Friedrichstadt, foundet in 1621 by Herzog Friedrich III. von Schleswig-Gottorf, who encouraged dutch emigrants to settle here and build up a trade centre in this part of S-H. The charakter of this little town reminds strongly of dutch cities like Amsterdam

Tönning, a little harbour town at the estuary of river Eider,
The market place with the old church.

A pic of the inner part of the harbour

Husum, first mentioned in written records in 1252. Theodor Storm, the author of "Der Schimmelreiter" gave the town it´s nickname "Die graue Stadt am Meer" (The grey town at the sea). There´s always some kind of melancholic feeling when i linger alongside the ships...

Büsum, another harbour town i visited during a school outing in the early eighties for the first time.

"I want to grow ´til i´m soooo big"

The wadden sea at the south shore of the peninsula Eiderstedt

....and finally me in front of the old restaurant "Zur Post" in Büsum

As a side note:I wasn´t able to share all the pics i wanted to. I got the error message "You have included 20 images in your message. You are limited to using 13 images so please go back and correct the problem and then continue again. Images include use of smilies, the vB code [img] tag and HTML <img> tags. The use of these is all subject to them being enabled by the administrator." when i tried to post for the first time. WTF?!?? Is this a consequenz of the vBulletin upgrade?

I lived in Schleswig Holstein for a year. In Kiel and Rendsburg. Your pics kind of make me want to go back.

Upon request: some additional pics

Husum harbour during ebb tide

The slipway, in earlier times trawlers and smaller ships were serviced here

A detail of the rudder of an old out-of-duty ship that placed buoys to mark the waterway (BTW: 75 hp Diesel engine)

The Eidersperrwerk, a huge barrier against the forces of the North Sea (pic borrowed)

Five 40 meters long shutters viewed from the coast side

Tönning, one old ketch

...a view of the port of the harbour

Land reclamation at the south coast of Eiderstedt

Those were fun to look at. It's been many years since I walked the Wattenmeer. I have a nice memory: I was walking along with a German friend who was telling me that if you were very lucky, you could sometimes find chunks of amber on the beach. I looked down and there was a piece at my feet, like it was summoned.

Nice pictures, I specially liked the Büsum one. What kind of cam do you use? I like the fact that the skies went out blue. Some times it gets out too bright- white skies.

The cam was a Minolta Dimage X50, 5 Mpixel. It has some probs with colour aberration near the border, but it´s VERY small and light (volume like a cell phone) so one can take it out on the road almost ever and miss no chance.

In which band do (did) you play? If anonymity is required, pls PM me

And another one: Westerhever church built in 1370 (only to replace another one which was destroyed during a large flood 8 years before). Large sustainers and wall anchors prevent the tower from collapsing.

A trawler which was fixed after a collision by simply welding in a steel plate. Must be very wet on deck when waves are a li´l bit higher

A Minolta Dimage X50, normally those probs don´t show off. Most pics look like taken with my Minolta XD-7.
