My G4 is continually giving me the alert, "Not enough memory to load '125012024.DIR.' Try turning off the memory cache in the Memory control panel." Try as I might, I am unable to rid myself of this alert (including my turning off the memory cache and having whatever it is just load). I cannot find the source of this alert anywhere in my System folder or elsewhere, so I am unable to delete the darn thing. I have tried using Sherlock and searching for invisible files as well, as well as looking for whatever is newest by date right after I get the alert. No success though. Whenever I get the alert all applications are halted in their traqcks until I placate the thing. A bit more detail: the alert appears all the time, and is not application specific - it will appear as an alert at any time when I am working in any number of different applications (from Netscape to IE to Canvas to Word to Eudora, etc), or doing nothing at all with all applications except Launcher and Finder closed. When I hit the alert cancel box, the alert will go away only to reappear just a few minutes later. When the alert does appear, it will stop whatever is happening at the moment (say playing an MP3 file through SoundJammer or loading a web page), until it can be cancelled, making it a real and continual annoyance. I've no idea where it came from, or where it is in my system so that I can delete it and live in peace. I really dont want to have to delete my whole system and try to rebuild everything, but am at a complete loss as to what I am up against here. Any insight and advice would be very very gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

There's a neat little program called Peek-a-boo, that tells you what tasks are running (and how much cpu time, memory etc. they're using). It might be worth running it to see if there's anything 'odd' running in the background of your system.
Generally a nifty bit of program (also great for speeding up SETI times by killing unnecessary tasks
