Just purchased a Brand New (stock) DP 2.5 w/ 3 yr applecare for $2030 to my door. I was heavily considering the new DC2.3 which I can get with edu discount for about $2290 (w/o the apple care plan) delivered so that option was very attractive too. In the end I went for the DP because it is still able it run Panther as some of my apps are not too stable in Tiger yet.

Any thoughts on whether I made a mistake with the 2.5 instead of the newer 2.3 for a few more coin???

Thanks you guys are awesome!!!

I don't see a problem. If the PCI Express and DDR2 RAM don't matter much to you, than I think you're fine.

I would have gone for the 2.3, because it's a newer mac, but if you really need 10.3 then you didn't have much choice, did you?

But don't regret it, the 2.5 will hold fast for years!

Yeah, man. Don't sweat it and enjoy your new Mac. As brokenjago said, unless you need the new PCIe slots and want the faster memory, you're going to love the new power at your fingertips.

I went for a dual 2.7 as I had PCI-X cards that I needed to use NOW and didn't want to wait for PCIe versions. I couldn't be happier. This bad boy will last well into the Intel switch. So will yours.

Well thanks guys! I still am having a little doubt if I shouldn't have went the DC route. Anyone ever compare the DP 2.5 to the DC 2.3? They seem to be the ones that are most closely related.

In the long run, I don't know how much money I saved If I got a slower machine with less hd, slower ram, cache, video card?????

I did get a three year applecare so I could always sell it and still have it under warranty. It was over $250 less w/ an additional three yr warranty.

Who knows

I don't know why you think you got a slower machine. You didn't. Overall, faster RAM in the DC can't make up for faster CPUs in the DP 2.5.

Maybe the 9600XT is slower than the GeForce 6600 (I really don't know). But IF it is, you can replace the 9600XT with a X800XT--game over.

Selling the DP 2.5 for a DC 2.3 would be a downgrade. The only way up from where you're at (not counting a DP 2.7) is a Quad.

I dig my 2.5 DP.

I ran cinebench at the Apple store on a 2.3 DC and found that it did not perform
as nicely as did the 2.5 DP so relax and enjoy your new power machine.

Some of the things it will do will make your head spin its so fast.

Congratulations on your new Mac. As for double posts, just edit them and replace the text with [dp] or something similar - members can't delete posts completely.

Love my 2.5. I don't see any reason that you shouldn't be thrilled with it. It's a great machine.
