Does everyone agree that Duke is overrated and will lose sooner than later? I had my high hopes that it was going to be tonight.. stupid Dockery making a half court three pointer to beat VT.

I'm afriad that Dee Brown has become allen iverson. shooting 5000 times a game to get decent numbers. the other guys (and weber) need to step up and do something about it.

Dee Brown is not a point guard - I don't know who is on Illinois, but they need to move him over to shooting guard fast. At this rate, he won't make the developmental league, let alone the NBA.

We don't get the games here in St. louis so I have no idea how he actually fared, but in the last game vs Xavier, he was like 4-16 from the field. Not good.

they are a very good team. overrated? of course. ;-) they'll most certainly lose to a lesser rated team (since they'll likely remain 1 or 2 for the near future) during the season and then their rating will drop.

it *is* somewhat surprising to see that unc isn't as hapless as folks thought they would be. they'll enter the top 25 poll now, perhaps even as high as 15 (though i think 17-19 is more likely).

be well.

Duke. Overatted, yes. As overrated as everyone who isn't a Duke fan likes to think? No.

I'm a big UNC fan and am glad to see they are playing hard. They will cause some teams fits this year though I still don't know if they're a ranked team. Fun to watch they will be.

Agreed on all previous statements related to Dee Brown.

That ending was absolutely insane for Duke...wow!

On a side note, look out for Oklahoma State come March...a very young and talented team.

that shot made me sick to my stomach. I saw a Buick Rendezvous recently with a license plate that sums it all up for me:

IH8DUKE

As for this year... I'm not quite sure what to expect from my Terps. A few years ago they were talented and inconsistent, but extremely young.... now they just seem to be inconsistent.

At last they got rid of Gilchrist - hope he's having fun in Europe. IMO - That prick cost us the NCAA streak.

The poll on espn.com cracks me up (right hand side, near bottom):

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/index

Illinois is the most likely out of that group to reach the final four? Sure, I love Illinois, but that's nuts!

Polls are phony. The football BCS and all basketball polls are manipulated to sell newspapers and tv ratings. Yes, at the end of the season, some teams from "lesser" conferences will suddenly shoot up in the polls so that if they do well in the tournament, people can claim that they were highly rated. sam

Also, he is the only coach in UK history to not make it to the Final Four. In case you weren't aware, UK fans feel entitled to have the best team in the country. UK basketball goes back to before Duke, UNC, etc.

Sutton was never charged or accused of anything with that event as far as I know. Am I wrong? As is, it's only speculation that he was involved in one way or another.

No Final Four or not for UK with Sutton at the helm, you do realize he is the only coach in Division 1 NCAA history to bring 4 teams to the NCAA Tournament, correct?

He is a few wins shy of 800 all-time wins...good for Top 5 in the history of the game. You cannot deny for 1 second he shouldn't be in the Hall-of-Fame.

OJ wasn't guilty, and it's only speculation that he killed Nicole. I probably wouldn't care at all about it, but I grew up in Lexington and this guy is the devil there.

Well, they should rejoice him...his resignation/firing brought on the "all-mighty" Pitino.

Who then went to Louisville, the jerk! We're not easy to please. Tubby's a nice guy and all, but it's about time for a title again (his first was with Pitino's players).

I still want to cry every time they replay that Laettner shot from 1992 (was that the year?). Best game I've ever seen, unfortunately UK lost.

it's mashburn that deserves the credit imho. Pitino is great but mashburn went to UK when no other big name would. Big time recruit....perhaps the most important UK recruit ever.

What a great game...Duke vs. UK, 1992 is correct.....can't stand laettner to this day. i remember exactly where was and what I was doing......same goes for the OJ chase....which interrupted the Knicks and Rockets game 5 NBA final!!! memories.......

And that makes it better how?

Prepare for all of the hate to come spewing out now that a Bruin speaks up...but, watch out for the UCLA renaissance.

Ben Howland is going to make some noise with all underclassmen this year.

I'm not saying he's put together the best team in the nation (yet), but we can beat anybody.

Wrong and wrong.

I was on a PC unfortunately when I posted last. I actually hate Nova, but I can respect a good team. I had them winning the tourney last year. Anyway, didn't mean to push your buttons. if I knew It was so easy, I wouldn't have said anything. Good victory against AS...

North Dakota State University, who is still in the Division 1 transition, just beat Wisconsin Madison by seven points! What a huge win for NDSU.

From one pre-game capsule:
The Badgers are clearly the choice in this one, as they are better in every facet of the game. NDSU is a fine little program, but expecting the Bison to be competitive in this one may be a bit much to ask.
Go Bison!

if there is any truth to this, let's hope you don't lose to West VA today at Pauley. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Duke went down, which means UF will lose tonight. When they get voted #1 or have the chance to win and be #1, they lose their next game.

did you see that clip of Pat Forde going insane during the vols practice?

No... UConn is #1. Duke fell to #3 in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls. How on earth did UNC get a #1 vote? I've never seen a team that far away from #1 with a #1 vote.

?! strangeness.

and surprisedness - hansbrough unanimous all-acc first team as a freshman.

and i'm figuring williams to get "coach of the year" - for the acc, anyhow - for pulling off such a strong season after losing, what, 90% of his scoring from the previous year?

be well.

That wasn't me. But I do think Roy Williams will get coach of the year and Tyler Hansbrough will get Freshman of the year, both in the ACC and NCAA. Go Heels!!!!!
