Best,
Michael.

Edit:
Contents are:
FileVault, print services, WebDav, FireWire 800 drives, security-updates.
12" Al PB Rev. B, SD, 768 MB RAM, 80 GB disk, OS X 10.3.1. IBM TP A30p with Linux 2.4.20 for serious stuff ;-)

Here as well...

Doesn't seem too spectacular, just the recent updates put together - but none of those did affect me.

Best,
Michael.

WTF? The "Setup Assistant" came up after rebooting, weird. That's already been filled out and sent off to Apple.

Other then that, good so far....

What new animations? No problems so far with the update, and no setup assistant after I restarted.

10.3.1 fixed an annoying interface bug in safari. In 10.3, if you selected half of the url and started typing over it, there would be a space between what had been there previously, and what you were typing. Now this is gone, thank you apple.

The infamous Finder bug is still here..

In column view.. when I preview an audio file (in my case). I open up a new Finder window.. same column view. When I click on an item, it select two or more items for me.

This one really bugs me (pun intented!). It's worse if you try to select something sitting on the desktop. The finder just goes bonkers.

It's a shame they didn't fix this one in this update.

I'd say yes. I'm running it on my G5 since I got my hands on it, and I've had no problems - I don't have a FW800 device, and really that's been the only major 10.3 concern.

So far (well, OK, it's been about 30 minutes), 10.3.1 has been fine.

Personally, this was a worthless update. I mean, it didn't fix any of the issues I have with 10.3. There are plenty of bugs in here that were not included in this small update. Some of them extremely small and simple to fix.

I almost like getting those 30meg updates... you at least know you are getting something!

Just me though.

I think in this case urgency of some bug fixes is more important than having a sumo all-things-fixed update.

Sadly, the Finder still relaunches for me when it tries to update and icon preview. Does anyone else get this? I haven't seen anybody mention it.

This strikes me as a quick fix of glaring problems (Firewire, File Vault). The real bug fix is probably 6-8 weeks away.

but will they address the issue with the FW400 drives? A[ppple has unfortuantely ignored that there is a problem with some of the 400 drives... we shall see.. I'm waiting on the update... and my FW400 drive.

I got bit by the FW800 bug too yesterday. 4 hours of DV-logging and a whole lot of movies down the drain. The worst part was that I was aware of the update, had downloaded the update. The update then FAILED at work (most likely because I was using FW400 to access it). I then forgot about it when I came home, lent my PB and my HD to my girlfriend. She plugs it in and boom. No data. Oh well, at least I got 200 GB free now

Hmmmm. I just realized I installed 10.3.1 over 7B80 here at work....oops.

From 7B80 to 7B107 with no apparent problems. *shrugs*

Oh well, we're waiting for a bulk upgrade here at work, so I'll just reinstall then anyways.

I feel the same.
The update's probably only worth a 3.0.1 or 3.0-107, but that'd make the complete OS version 10.3.0.1, which would be beyond algebra capabilities of marketing dep't... and make it look like work-in-progress (stable-alpha on sourceforge ), which it still is.

Best,
Michael.

The Panther FireWire bug is specific to FireWire 800 drives with the Oxford 922 chipset. MacFixIt had speculated that FW400 drives were also affected, but they have since retracted that.

May be worthless to you, but to those who lost firewire drives (or were afraid to upgrade as a result) or had FileVault stomp on things, it's very, very worthwhile. I expect 10.3.2 will get back to fixing the various other issues that have been reported (video card issues, Finder networking, etc).

What are you referring to?
I haven't found anything that negates the reports of some FW 400 being effected.
