Get with the game. The music ipods are hip and steve jobs is going to make sure he keeps charging 8x what they're worth until nobody wants them anymore and yet again apple holds 5% marketshare of yet another market.

Didn't Panasonic make one too? Hell, they have DVD players that are about the size of a DVD case.

nobody walks in america, which means this could be popular. so whats gunna be in the new ipod? a new scroll wheel? a new outer case? big friggen deal. im waiting for something revolutionary before getting one, and im sure many people here are. apple is obsessed with looks. the only thing changed in the ipods ever was the look, and the hd size.

'Flogging' a dead horse has nothing to do with 'beating'. It came from customers at the horse markets and then car showrooms who saw the vehicle being sold to them couldn't go a mile. 'Flogging' is Cockney for 'selling'. Originally it was 'You're trying to flog me a dead horse'. Then 'You're flogging a dead horse'. Then the Americans got it and confused flogging for beating.

Who beats dead horses? It doesn't even make sense to beat a live one.

Just because the Sex Pistols had an album named Flogging a Dead Horse doesn't mean it's a British saying. Do you have proof?

I think you have misunderstood something youself. We "Yanks" don't give a sh*t if it was a British saying or not. We tend to steal things and make them better.

Besides all that...What does this have to do with the topic?

The "misunderstood" British saying has become an American saying. Beating a dead horse means wasting energy on something that isn't going to make a difference, or in other words "forcing an issue that is already closed."

You can read all about it here: http://www.goenglish.com/BeatADeadHorse.asp

Some highlights: "You are beating a dead horse when you insist on talking about something that cannot be changed. ... Beating a dead horse is an action that has no purpose, because no matter how hard or how long you beat a dead horse, it is not going to get up and run. ... To repeatedly bring up a particular topic with no chance of affecting the outcome is beating a dead horse."

There are many other different ways that Americans have come to use English. Language evolves. This particular saying is not misunderstood, but has changed and evolved.

That said, I guess it has even become a matter of beating a dead horse to say that there WON'T be a video iPod, because there won't be.

I knew the Sex Pistols personally so don't talk mention names like you know something. They didn't come up with the saying coz its been around since fricking Karl Marx's time. Maybe earlier.

I feel so so bad for mentioning the name of a band. I'm also impressed that you "knew" them. I must have hit a nerve.

Can we please get back on topic.

>wouldnt be a bad idea

According to who(m)?

According to the people at apple, that i guarantee you have thought about this in real terms (cost, tech, marketing), more than any of us, it is a bad idea at this time.

But to those that insist on apple is wrong...there is a player from archos. Today.

Here's a link for those that want to buy one:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...58219?v=glance

You do know the guy that has final say so over a vPod chimed in last week:

Jobs: Music is background activity -- movies are foreground activity -- music is the revolution here.

Jobs: we have to stay focused on the fact that people are buying iPods for music.

Jobs: It's the music stupid...

Jobs (joking): next big step is we want iPod to make toast. Toying with refrigeration, too.

Look at that horse! Why is everyone still beating it?!

Shrug...

If some smart soul were to hack GameBoy Advance to run the iPod OS, you'd have your wish.

That's a great idea! I mean come on, if Microsoft can port Office onto the GameBoy then Apple should bring over iTunes.

relax... i just think some of us are a little amused that you think a petition will change apple's mind. I and others have posted in this thread and others, legit reasons why this is something apple will not "just do" in the short term.

Yet when i bring up points like this:

According to the people at apple, that i guarantee you have thought about this in real terms (cost, tech, marketing), more than any of us, it is a bad idea at this time.
or this:

You do know the guy that has final say so over a vPod chimed in last week:

Jobs: Music is background activity -- movies are foreground activity -- music is the revolution here.

Jobs: we have to stay focused on the fact that people are buying iPods for music.

Jobs: It's the music stupid...

Jobs (joking): next big step is we want iPod to make toast. Toying with refrigeration, too.

They simply go ignored by some.

Luckily, If you do not agree with apple vis-a-vis a vPod you can always vote with your wallet:

http://www.archos.com/

Buy your next handheld video player there, but don't be surprised that apple doesn't mind because for every 100 potential ipod buyers there are probably a handful that interested in a handheld video player...

well, the reason i think that a petition might change apples mind was because theres a petition for verizon to get a bluetooth phone, and now they are. this gave me a little hope for petitions.

Slight difference between Verizon and Apple. Verizon might actually listen to a petition. I've signed petitions in the past for Apple.... hmmm, let's see there was this one to keep iTools free-for-life-email alive. Yeah, that worked so well that was $99USD charged to my credit card for "Free-email"!

Part of being a mac user is accepting that you appreciate what Cupertino gives you, because the alternative is worse. Although now that I know AmigaOS is alive and well, I can sleep at night.

for that money, why not spend a little more and get a full on laptop?

No offense to free speech, but never have I seen a better argument for no video support on the iPod.
