Are you running 1.1.1 or 1.1.2? VoiceNotes should show up in Installer app. I have it on my T-Mobile (USA) iPhone with 1.1.1 and I used the same method as you.

Did you install the BSD Subsystem with Installer? I'm pretty sure you need it. I can ssh or sftp onto my 1.1.1 iPhone.

yeah I installed BSD but still no go. It's like it's not really updating from the server really.

Can I just force it to download from a website link ?

You can SSH into your phone using any ftp client (cyberduck). Then drag the .app into the applications folder and you're set.
Default user name and password for 1.1.1 is root/alpine which you might want to change and/or make sure you disable SSH after you're done (using netservices or services or UIctl).

Check your sources in installer.app for the original problem. Maybe you don't have all the sources in there?

How do you change the user name and password?

type passwd at the command prompt after you log in using ssh then follow the instructions. I don't know how to change the username.
please be careful tho if you're not too terminal savvy.

More specifically:

ssh -l root iphone.ip.add.ress
(use 'alpine' as password for 1.1.1)
passwd (follow instructions)

Perhaps you ought to use Installer.app to uninstall the BSD Subsystem, then reinstall it. What version of the iPhone firmware do you have?

Can I just force it to download from a website link ?
I don't know - I think you have to have BSD Subsystem installed before you can ftp/ssh/afp to the iPhone. Kind of a catch-22.

There actually is a "plug-in" for mobilesafari.app which will let you download stuff to your iphone.
Can't find the link right now, but i'll post it as soon as i find it.

And btw, if you have a peecee, you can use ibrikr or whatever to upload files to your iphone using a usb cable. Unfortunately, no such application exists for the Mac.
