Microsoft may present what the final consumer version of
Windows 10 will look like in late January, a report claims. The software giant is said to be holding an event towards the end of the month to showcase the consumer preview edition of the operating system, within weeks of the company presenting to attendees at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at Las Vegas.
According
to The Verge, the press event will be larger than the
original unveiling of Windows 10, and will also include updates for other areas of the Microsoft ecosystem. Plans for Windows smartphones and tablets are touted to make an appearance, alongside possible Xbox One dashboard updates.
The technical preview of Windows 10 has been available to download and try out under the free Windows Insider program. Windows 10 is said to provide "one tailored experience," with unified apps working across PCs, tablets, and phones using a single common architecture. An updated Start Menu has reappeared, combining the traditional list and folder view with a column of Live Tiles, with Metro-style apps able to open up within their own desktop window, rather than filling the screen. There have also been rumors that Microsoft is testing a version of the
Cortana virtual assistant for desktops.
More details about the Windows 10 event are expected to arrive as part of a formal announcement before the end of 2014. The full release is thought to go on sale in mid-2015.
