So I'm not the only one wondering why

Before Season 5 started, I recall seeing a preview pic of a

who never appeared in the episodes. Some material must have been cut.

Loved it when Arya took care of business. And Daario Naharis is growing on me. He made sensible calls.

Inconclusive until Season 6 airs. When Starbuck vanished, the show runners had Katee Sackhoff audition for other jobs. In case anyone asked her.

Yeah, I personally think that him saying he isn't coming back is a ruse, too many other pieces are in play to support his return.

Yes - same with Brienne.

It seemed apparent from the books that the powers of the LoL priests increased significantly once Danys hatched her dragons. I think it is a bit speculative to say how they are connected or what is the chicken or the egg, but the dragons seem to have come first.

Good points.

I don't think he is in the show, but there is a priest of LoL in King's Landing in the first book, and he is basically a subject of ridicule. He lights his sword on fire by pouring some flammable liquid over it - not exactly magic. Lately, LoL priests are quite a bit more powerful.

He is in the show - Arya met him in Season 3. Thoros of Myr. The flaming sword made an appearance against the Hound.

There are lots of gods in this world. The Andals worship "the seven", which are what we have seen as the milque-toast religion in the series every now and then, but in the North , on the Iron Islands, and in old Valyria, we have seen other gods worshipped.

There is an issue, however: Resolving major plot points with magic only works if the magic system is reasonably well defined. That is not we have - we have seen no limits to what the LoL priests can do, or what the WW can do, and there is no structure to the magic. You can't have Mellissandre just walking in and burning WW alive as a solution. You either have a battle with dragons (we understand what dragons can do), define some serious limits on what the LoL priests can do, or solve it some other way entirely.

Yay! Everyone dies! Anymore I wonder if I'm only watching to see who dies next.

Is anyone else distracted by the fact that the series has now caught up with the books and Mr. Martin is now being rushed to finish the next one? You wonder if the series will adversely affect his storytelling or that he will switch gears or even eliminate things just to get it done.

The series has been in production for 5+ years now. Martin should have been writing all along instead of having so much fun with the TV people. At least in Season 5, he didn't write an episode. So he could concentrate on the books.

He has provided the show runners with the outlines of the final books. Including outlines of the characters' stories, and how they end up.

The show's producers confirmed they've forked their own storyline from that of the books. No need for Martin to keep writing for the show's sake.

He took 5 years to write A Feast for Crows, long before the series was a thing.

I just don't think he knows where he's headed right now. He didn't plan to tell the story in A Feast for Crows/most of A Dance with Dragons at all, and only did so because he had trouble moving on with some storylines without doing so. I hoped that without that hanging over him, he would get with the program and write the rest faster (the first books took him 2 years each), but nope. It's going to be 5 years again.

Finally saw the end of this season, which got me to look something up in A Feast for Crows. I stumbled upon a comment from GRRM, about where the rest of the characters are, and reassurance that they were all in A Dance with Dragons, "coming out next year". That book took six effing years to write. He has no concept of how long these books take.

Anyway: the World book makes it clear that the White Walkers existed before the First Men came to Westeros, which is before Valyria was founded. They, and the giants and most other creatures we've seen, are natural, not magical.

My wife almost shat herself at the end, then all of us watching (some 15 or so) cheered and pumped their fists.

Oh, and there's the king's moot in the Iron Isles, you know that won't be bloodless. I'm thinking Theon is going to be heavily involved in that.

I now genuinely believe that Daenerys and Snow will unite in marriage (he likes wild girls) and will make children who will be resistant to fire and will be able to hill white walkers! #snowdragons

I guess it doesn't make sense to spoil things anymore...

There are three dragons. Dany clearly bonds with Drogon, the black one, but there are two more. This matches the situation when the Targaryens first arrived in Westeros - three dragons, but also three Targaryens, siblings. If we are to repeat that once again, we need three Targaryens. Dany and possibly Jon are two. There are more possibles who haven't showed up in the show yet (you thought you had seen all of the books? Nope. Some storylines have passed the level we are at in the books, but they haven't shown all the storylines from AFFC and ADWD). This hints that we may be headed for a rerun of that original conquest.

Love is not a requirement when it comes to marriage in this world. Remember that the peace after Robert's Rebellion was forged by three marriages, all negotiated, only one turned out happy. It probably fits the story better if Jon and Dany and (not telling) are in a loveless marriage.

I should have put it together but I didn't, I blame myself. I thought he'd be pardoned, in a sense, by Daenarys, marrying him to shore up the North (after he destroys the Boltons and takes the Warden mantle). So I suppose one of the dragons will fly off and seek him out. Likely Rhaegal (makes sense).

Rhaegal is the green one, though. Viserion is the white one, which fits better with Lord Snow (and the other claimant is also most closely related to Rhaegar).
