So I have a B&W power mac with the Radeon 9200 graphics card. The best card you can get for this computer. I have Quake 3 for the Mac and I'm wondering if there are any patches so I can play Quake 3 natively on OS X.

For the requirements, it says it needs at least a G4. I have a 1.1GHz G3

Try it anyway. I ran it on my B&W with a 1.1GHz G3/9200 ME a looooooooong while ago and it ran quite well.
There's also another OS X version out here:

Also try this: ioquake3: Home
It should run a bit better on modern OS X.

I tried to install the one at macupdate but when I try to run it, I get an error saying "You need to select the installation directory for Quake3" I have Quake 3 Arena installed on the root of the drive. I don't have OS9 installed, if that helps.

Use ioquake3, Thinine provided a link, and just copy that pak0.pk3 file from your quake3 cd or installation directory over to ioquake3's data folder and you're good to go.

Just don't get hit in the face with a rocket if you are using an altivec enhanced version. It crashes. it's really damn annoying.

I don't know what IOQuake means, but if you meant ID software's version, sorry, you're wrong. The G4 altivec enhanced version crashes if you get a rocket in the face directly. It's a known bug.

Thinine is giving you a hint that ioquake3 is the best Quake 3 port out of all the shitty ones (including the supposed official one).
ioquake3 is from the same guy that brought us UT2k3 and UT2k4 (and many other games)...he, and the other developpers that work with him, know their stuff.
Now download ioquake3: ioquake3: Home ... and be quiet.
