How do you call or have named your computers and/or hard disks??

My iBook is LoZen... it's HD is Tao.

The older laptop (a P2, Acer travelmate) is LaKalsa and it's HD is Che. Though it has it's 'huge' 4,6 G HD divided to 4 and runs Redhat 7.3 AND Win ME (of which I practically never use Win) it's C has just that name .. and it still has only one name - I have tried to change it 2 years ago but I guess the computer got pissed off the other name cos I remember I ended formatting it again after 2 days after changing it's name. So it'll be - I think forever? - LaKalsa.

Also.. Why have you given those names then?

My scheme (here I must say that my Swedish, "hyper-rational" part prevailed!):

- Power Mac G4 AGP:

Computer name: G4. Master (40 GB) hard disk partitions' names: 1, 2, 3, 4. Slave (30 GB, backup) hard disk partitions' names: 1+, 2+, 3+.

- iMac rev. B (networked with the G4):

Computer name: iMac. Master (20 GB) hard disk partitions' names: 5, 6, 7, 8.

Anyway, it's a quite simple and effective naming scheme, as the HD icons always line up in the correct order (sorted by name), and the iMac becomes a natural extension of the G4 (and vice versa); and, of course, I rely on custom HD icons to easily distinguish between them (System, Apps, Users, Web, etc.).

The freedom of all is essential to my freedom. - Mikhail Bakunin

As many computer and network administrators do, I follow a theme. All of my machines and networks have a name from the Stephen King Dark Tower series of books.

So far I have machines named:

roland
blaine
kimba
tepachi

I have two network names:

eld
lud

The disk that came with my Mac is now in two partitions. They are called

Old Fella 9

and

Old Fella X

The 30 Gig I bought later as an upgrade I call

Albion

Perhaps someone will know the somewhat obscure reference in that name?

And going back to the thread...

I named my Hard Drive Tele-tran 3. The original Tele-tran 1 was destroyed when Tripticon came to Earth. I am assuming that Tele-tran 2 was destroyed in the 5th Cybertronian War.

all the partitions understand that they each have their place and purpose. they know i don't love any of them more than their brother/sister. and if, sometimes, it seems like i favor one, well, that's just cuz it contains my current favorite song or video. and i'm sure i'll get sick of it soon enough, and then i can get back to loving them all equally.

a bunker twenty miles from here. 1 mile underground. for their own safety.

btw, the partitions vary in size from 755MB to 27GB. i like to keep things in their own little world.
