Pirate times << tough times, but cheap cider, wenches, stripy clothes and pies the size of children.

Victorian times << Jack the ripper and Sherlock Holmes, no internet, but cheap pies, with a high meat content if the pie shop is next to a barbers shop.

Current times << WARNING voting for this time will cause you to immediately be transported to it.

Rapture times << bioshock, underwater / art deco sky city (like main street Disneyland on acid).

Star Trek times << unlimited and calorie free pies

Another advantage of Star Trek times is the holodeck so you can cosplay in Pirate or Victorian times.

Winner, only drawback is that you will be surrounded by humorless nerds.

I think any time that has good quality health care is a good one. having a holodeck would be very nice though...

want to be a formula 1 Racer?
how about some epic ski trips?
drive any huge vehicle you want? big rig trucking game in real life?
unlimited skydiving?

Would anyone not want to live Star Trek time?? Personally, I'd want to be based out of DS9

I notice you missed banging Scarlet Johansen off that list.

Yes, victorian London would be good, but in 1895 you would miss the ripper.
I you waited outside 29 Hanbury Street, Whitechapel on the 8th of september 1888 you would definitely catch a glimpse of the naughty fellow doing what he did best.

Don't really care about ol' Jack, was thinking about Mathers, Waite, and Crowley.

I always associated Star Trek time with the restrictions of Bladerunner. You only get to go on the spaceships/stations if you've got 'clean' DNA/are incredibly intelligent/dad was in the Skulls etc etc.

TBH Idon't really know what to answer.

Good idea for a thread though.

I wish I could have been born about 1890, so I could see all the tech advances and see the race plane pilots, movie stars and steam locomotives. I might get to own a new Ford Model "A"!

Any time in the Past would only be interesting from our perspective from the Present. Without that perspective, I think the Past would be quite horrible for 99.99% of us (forget the 1% ... we'd be living in a world of the 0.01%)

Star Trek times? It's a nice fantasy. But, keep in mind that their society is extremely Socialist with elements of Communism. Also, they seem to face destruction of the Earth/galaxy/universe several times each year.

I'm quite happy with the Present.

But they do it properly so its not actually a bad thing. I guess their lack of need for currency helps a lot with that.

"The best place to be is here. The best time to be is now."

Thats a great quote though I could certainly fancy seeing the future. I doubt the timing when it comes to certain star trek technology, but much of it will turn up sooner or later. Of course, as soon as we perfect the holodeck, we risk ending up in the Matrix.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

If you don't find something to do you have to talk to a Diana Troy and her nose until you get off your ass and find something. The really nice thing about some of the later episodes of DS9 is they showed the civilian side of life in the federation.

I've always wanted to live in the early 20th century just after the turn. Just when electricity and motor cars are just becoming common, but their are still many cobbled streets and simPlicity
What, me worry?

1997 with the knowledge and resources I have today. That gives me four years to prevent 9/11 among other tragedies and to acquire a lot of cheap AAPL. . .

This is a pretty weak answer. Living any time in the past with the knowledge you have today would make for a pretty easy ride, relative to the other inhabitants of the time anyway. Why not just stipulate that you can have a Grey's Sports Almanac too?

Also, how exactly would you prevent 9/11? Everyone there (then) would either laugh at you or lock you up for being a lunatic or a terrorist.
There is also the chance you'd just end up being the one to put the idea in someone else's head in the first place.

I should clarify this thread was theoretical, I am not arranging transportation to these times.

Much less sodomy.

I'd have liked to be born in 1950. I'd be 13 when the Beatles hit and 23 when glam rock peaked. I'd be able to drive original muscle cars without the rust (and under warranty). Society would be all about ME - talkin' bout my g-g-g-generation.

Houses would be cheap. Families could live on one wage. Job-wise I could work my way up from ground level, and then grow old and bankrupt social security.

I'd be all for living in Star Trek times, aside from the fact that apparently by then Nokia becomes a major part of the telecom industry again, Apple's nowhere in sight, everything is shiny enough to make you need LaFarge's visor, and apparently they found a way to cure teh Gay in the future.

Star Wars times would be way better that Star Trek times. At the very least they wouldn't make everyone wear one-piece zipper suits.

The past then : A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
