I'm not involved in education, but I did get mine at the education discount. I bought it off of a college student who, after having it for all of a week, decided he couldn't afford it. His loss has definitely been my gain.

I bought the first 17" PB at UT Austin and received it back in April. I absolutely love this machine. It really draws a crowd anywhere I take it, especially when I'm at the Dell dominated College of Business. This is one of the best machines I've ever had.

Educational discount is good but if you are a student sign up for the developer package. I got my powerbook 17" with 1 gig ram for under 2800. Estimated 700+ dollar savings. One time thing but well worth it for the savings.
