Hello all...I have an early dual 500Mhz Power Mac G4 that came with a DVD-RAM drive. Since this is all but useless, I want to upgrade to a superdrive. As I understand it, the Pioneer DVR-A05 is the current Superdrive. Is this correct?

I guess my question is, if I buy this:

http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/...sp?dpno=753333

Will I be able to use the DVD and CD writing capabilities with all of the iLife products?

Thanks in advance for answer my (probably stupid) question!

Jeff

That is the current Superdrive. Check around, that isn't a good price at all.

I would absolutley be willing to sell the DVD-RAM once I get the Superdrive. Shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] and we'll see what we can work out.

Thanks!

Yes you can use the iLife apps if you install a superdrive. But you might have to reinstall OS X.

check out xlr8yourmac.com.

they have archives of tests people did to install dvd drives on many different machines. very useful. you can choose your machine and the intended drive. I installed an LG 4160 in a 533 tower and was very easy. get the patchburn, also at xlr8 and use it after the physical install. osx and apps should recognize everything, mine did. iDVD, iTunes, dvd studio pro, not to mention toast which required nothing.
good luck
