Having searched hard, I found that only 2 webcams by Logitech can work on Macs to communicate with Windows. One is the Quickcam Pro 4000 and the other is Quickcam Notebook Pro. User reviews:

Amazon.com: Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks (USB): Electronics

Amazon.com: Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000: Electronics

iSight works only with iChat, and interact only with AIM on Windows, and some users have problems.

Besides iSight and these 2 Logitech webcams, I couldn't find any other brand webcams that work on Macs. Anyone?

USB webcam driver for Mac OS X

-Drivers for various USB web cams.

It allows my friend to video chat with people on Skype.

A bit tricky to install when I did it (they may have made it easier), but it wasn't too bad. Check to see if your camera is supported, and reach the installation instructions carefully.

Good luck,

-Chris.

Edit: To answer the original question, no I do not believe that you are able to video chat with people on MSN at the moment. Tell them to get Skype if you are really interested in seeing them, as Skype video chat works with both Windows and OS X. (The OS X version and possibly the Windows version are in beta stages, but they work fine from my limited experience.)

I really don't know about webcams, since I don't have any. As for MSN video compatibility, you can use aMSN. Beware, it is not even far from Adium's beauty, but the latter doesn't have webcam support (as of yet).

From what I've heard from folks at MSN, there is no intention to support webcams on OS X in Live Messenger.

I've tried aMSN myself and it only "sort" of worked. No audio and very bad video. Looks like it went through a blender.
