2 weeks ago I bought a 30Gb iPod photo for $500AUD

as you know last night Apple updated the iPod line

the new 20Gb iPod colour is also $500AUD

10Gb less for the same price!

Glad I got my 30Gb when I did

In the US the 20g costs $299 US

They sold the 30g for $349 US

That is how much I payed for mine.

I am just glad I got it before they stopped making the 30g.

The $50 was well worth color and 10g extra.

And 30g is just the right size for me.

I don't know what site you're on dude, but the 20gb price hasn't changed. It's still $AUD 449.

EDIT: I just noticed a graphic on the main iPod store page that reads $499.. don't know why, everywhere else says $449.

I don't know about the rest of you, but the new lineup is a bit odd. Theres such a large gap between the 20 and the 60 GIG, both in price and size. 20 is a bit small for me, and 60 is a bit big for me. Blah!

That is what I think too.

Odd. They should have kept the 30g, and priced it at $299.

I think a 40 would have been preferrable to a 30.

Well, maybe more is to come? You guys are never satisfied.

When the Intel announcement was made, you were mostly all going, "The Sky is Falling"....

More cheese please...

If we were always satisfied, Apple would have no reason to improve their products and product range.

Dissatisfation is good.

Now, they include a AC charger with it. Together with the color display, I think it's not too bad of a deal. Yes, some people don't want color, and would rather have the 10 GB extra. Well, you can't please everyone...

the 60 gig is just physically too big. I'm looking forward for smaller, higher density hard drives, or cheaper flash memory. How long can we expect till flash based 20GB ipods that have full controls, and screen?

That's because the iPhone will have 40 gig capacity.

You must be very small then. There's almost no noticeable difference between a 60 and a 30 or 20.

But I don't WANT an iPhone! The Japanese phone I'm going to get in a month will be like 10 times better, and I can watch TV, get GPS, and listen to radio on it. I want a new iPod to which I can get tons of music on it, as well as offload photos!

Gee wiz. Really though, the difference between the 20 and the 60 is a really wide gap. Its just odd marketing.

When did you buy it ?

AFAIK, the latest G4 model revision did NOT come with chargers any more.

I got mine in late February/early March. It came with a charger.
It's a little white box that you plug a USB dongle in. The USB cable goes to the dock connector piece which also has another length of cord with firewire at the end. It's a weird design.

It seems strange that apple has previously sold both 30 and 40 GB iPods, and now they have nothing there in that huge gap. Maybe they have something else in the pipeline, or they weren't getting the upsales they wanted.

If an iPod came with a Sirirus (sp?) satellite radio tuner built-in, I'd probably buy it.

Turtle777 & ilikebeer

I bought mine on the 7th of June. The charger's cable has a USB plug into the powerbrick and an iPod connector at the other end - no firewire plug.

I have a 6GB iPod mini and it was the perfect choice for me. I have yet to fill the thing and love the size/screen. I like the idea of the color screen, but I don't think I would use it all that much.

Oh well.

I think if Apple offered it as an option... but the idea of buying a $300+ player and then to pay a monthly fee... no thanks.

new 60 gig arrived this morning. packaging changed compared to my 4g 20gig.

the 60gig is a tad thicker, but not enough to make me want to return it. i really like the photo ability and the color screen.

I agree it is steep... But it is way cheaper, only 399$ for 60 GB, it used to be 599$! I'd just get the bigger model (its the best buy of all, IMO)
Apparently, I'm a sig violator. I feel honored. Oops.

The difference between the 4G 40GB and the 20GB was very big. I haven't seen the thinner photo models so I don't know how they stack up.

If they had made a 40GB iPod with the thickness of the 20GB, I'd buy one instantly. The only way I'd get the thick one is if it had 80GB, which still isn't enough for all my music.

Yeah seriously. IMO, they'll release a 20, 40, 80 iPod revision this fall. With the 40GB model utilizing a single platter drive, which means sexy thin!

I am still very happy with my "new" 40gig Photo iPod, got the last one from the local apple store for $349 early this year. I lasted 3years on my original 5gig iPod, I can probably go a few years with the 40gig. although, an iMovie iPod could be a nice excuse to upgrade again.

Well the color screen ones cost the same as the black and white ones did, so I wouldn't exactly say out of luck...
