Okay, can you check Gmail with your Mail app (not like Yahoo...)? If so I would like to throw my hat into the invite ring too, please. And that is a good question, why still invite only for this?

Yes you can. There are instructions for it on the gmail website I think. PM me your e-mail address if you want an invite.

You don't even need an invite anymore.

You can get an invite yourself using your cell phone. Google will text message you the link.

Just saw that after I posted, and now have my "invite" from Gmail. Guess I should have checked before I posted huh? Oh, and seanc, thanks for the offer but just got the text msg "invite" from Google. Thanks again though.

Yes, google has explicit instructions for using Mail.app's POP3 function. And I suppose the difficulty of getting a gmail address might help reduce the number of spammers better than just a 'security image' or whatever.

It's not that difficult to get a Gmail account, just invite yourself

I have about 4. One of which is dedicated to collecting spam/sign up things for when I need to download programs that make me enter an e-mail address.
