The vet, for all intents and purposes, murdered my dad's dog.

The world was a better place once said vet committed suicide.

HUGE HUGE HUGE props for not saying "for all intensive purposes." Seriously, this is the first time in months that I have seen the phrase correctly written (or even heard spoken).

Interesting sentence, because it illustrates the point I came here to make. Which word in that sentence did make you pause when reading?

unpair. Changing the first letter makes it much harder for the subconscious to correct.

Unpair is also far enough away phonetically from the intended meaning to be confusing.

Ha ha ha- I've never heard "intensive purposes" yet. I guess I'm lucky, that would drive me nuts. I get so frustrated being told "your lame".
