so now there's no excuse for spoiling the twist ending for the entire board.

it's pretty simple to use. just put the word spoiler in brackets [ ] type all about Keyser Soze, then close the tag. simple eh.

i'm open to changing how this looks. white with grey looks much better than black would have for the new theme.

Is there a way it could be set to reveal the text on a mouseover rather than having to highlight it?

Also, it should lens flare for dramatic effect.

mouseover would suck - far to easy to do accidentally.

Cool.

I'd suggest a JS CSS element switch (display:block/hide) rather than mouseover.

Still too easy to activate. No mouseover/hover events. click and drag is the only way to prevent spoilage accidents.

how about something like this ... "link to example". no accidental revealing on mousing over the spoiler, no highlighting required, simply click anywhere inside the spoiler and hold down mouse button to read. no js, either ... just plain ole' css.

that looks fab! it's a little taxing on the carpal tunnel to hold the mouse down while reading large text, but I should hope that spoilers would be short anyhow. and you can still click and drag too.

Should we make it brown, then? On second thought, we should just hold up with the "nice" spoiler, since the new theme is going live on

I think I'd pay money if you guys waited till April Fools, then just changed the color of the forums and said, "Voíla!"

and then change it back to the old theme on april 2. (edit: never mind me babbling ... looks like I need some sleep. or reading comprehension classes. or both.)

example #2, spoiler on crack, still decidedly low-tech, no js & no highlighting for andi css does rock, loads.

I didn't mind the high-lighting in the first one eff, it is multi-purpose for lazybones like me who can't hold a mouse button down for more than 3 seconds. But dakar is right, excellent trick for ignore!

also, the :hover and :active states don't work for non <a> links in IE6... so you'll need to leave the highlighting in for those poor souls!

Link spoiler. Read it in the status line.

mouseover

Limitation: only useful for a single line of text.

Very nice bit of code - HTML/CSS, I'm assuming?

yep. just a custom class ".spoiler" with varying background-colors/-images on ".spolier:hover" and ".spoiler:active" and setting the text inside the the spoiler div to "visibility:hidden" unless you click it. no biggie, really ... but loads of fun, which I assume, earns me the "nerd of the day" award.

I think I'll pass on that particular life. keep me updated though, should you stumble across any others.
