Welcome to the Game Replay, the thrice-weekly look at the wider world of gaming by the staff of MacNN. In today's edition, Activision solves a storage problem for Destiny players, CD Projekt Red denies a rumor of an acquisition by EA, Sony rebrands Project Morpheus, and the BBC launches a Doctor Who game maker.

Activision helps previous-generation console owners play Destiny with 32GB USB flash drive gift

Today's launch of Destiny expansion 'The Taken King' will help some players increase the storage of their home consoles. Publisher Activision is providing a limited number of players a 32GB USB flash drive that they can use with low-capacity models of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in order to install all the game files to the device.

According to GameSpot, the work around is a relatively elegant solution for players unwilling to either upgrade their console's storage or move to the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles, but there is a slight flaw. Activision warns Destiny and The Taken King need to be installed onto the console's hard drive in order to run, something that cannot be accomplished on devices with 20GB of storage. A future patch is apparently on the way to allow players to store Destiny files on a secondary external drive, such as the ones being sent out.

The promotion will be running until December 31, though it is only open to players with an existing and active account registered before September 15, and only with the lower-capacity storage models of console.

Sony rebrands Project Morpheus virtual reality headset to PlayStation VR

Sony has renamed its upcoming virtual reality headset, among a number of announcements made earlier today in Japan. Previously known as Project Morpheus, the VR device is being renamed to the PlayStation VR, with the company using this week's Tokyo Game Show to show off the device to the public before a formal release next year.

Ars Technica reports the demonstrations being used will include Summer Lesson, Sanganronpa VR, and content from Hatsune Miku. One odd inclusion to the roster is Final Fantasy XIV, with Square Enix rumored to be working on adding VR to the game, but not yet confirming it.

Other announcements made by the company includes the release of colored face plates for the PlayStation 4 consoles, as well as new controller colors, though a Western release of these new items remains unconfirmed. Sony is also dropping the price of the PlayStation 4 in Japan down to 35,000 yen ($290), which is a saving of 5,000 yen ($40). Again, similar savings elsewhere have yet to be announced.

CD Projekt Red denies rumors of an acquisition by EA

Rumors of a purchase of CD Projekt Red by EA are not true, the company has been compelled to announce. The board of CD Projekt Red has dismissed claims from a report that EA was in talks with the developer for a "potential takeover," with a payslip included in the report as proof of identity called out as fake.

The rumor stems from a report by. DSO Gaming, with someone claiming to be an employee quoted as saying "Electronics Arts representatives are currently visiting our studio and meeting with top management. We are not going to release any game soon, so for sure it's not about any publishing deal, so the only possible reason for EA guys being here is that they want to buy us."

The company's most recent release, The Witcher 3, has been a huge success for the company. Within six weeks of launch, it had managed to achieve over 6 million sales, with 1 million stemming from GOG, the company's own game store. The game cost approximately $81 million to develop, and helped the company reach a net profit of $62 million for the first half of its financial year. Two paid expansions are said to be on the way, with the first expected in October.

A statement provided to Eurogamer from co-founder Marcin Iwinski states "We usually don't comment on rumors but this one has become quite viral and we think it deserves to be put to bed. We are not talking with anyone regarding selling CD Projekt Red or GOG.com. Period. And the payslip is a fake – it was not issued by our company."

BBC encourages children to produce games by introducing the Doctor Who: Game Maker

The BBC has launched a new feature on its website as part of the broadcaster's Make It Digital season, one which it hopes to use to encourage children into programming. The Doctor Who: Game Maker is a simplified game engine that lets users create their own games featuring the TV show's cast of characters.

The tool will provide some assistance in creating a game from a template or completely from scratch, with basic types including platformers, puzzles, and racing games being offered. Character Strax will provide initial guidance, explaining how to change the game physics and other game logic elements, with an incoming arcade section allowing users to share their creations with other players.

The Doctor Who: Game Maker is the last in the series for the year of the campaign, following after an earlier similar-themed release teaching coding basics.
