MY:

12" Powerbook
- Airport Extreme
- 640mb RAM
- 60gb HD
- SuperDrive

for...

HIS:

12" iBook
- 800mhz
- 640mb RAM
- 40gb HD
- CDRW/DVD Combo
- AirPort

plus he gives me $800.

So what do you guys think??? Is this a fair deal? Should I go for it? (I am in somewhat need of the cash and the PowerBook is a great machine but seems a little much for what I need it for).

Help me out...

Thats about right. A new PB w/ SD is 1000.

A 800 mhz pb with Combo drive is about 1200-1300 so cash wise its an even trade.

Of course, the 12 inch g4 will stay out of obsolescance a little longer and hold its resale value better. If you plan on keeping ths a while, and the ibook will do what you need, sound like a good idea to me if you need the cash.
15" Macbook Pro 1.83 2 GB RAM
Blackbook 13.3 Powerhouse 2 GB RAM
MacMini Dual Core 2 GB RAM (Sadly running Windows Most of the time)
Numerouse Workstations running windows and Linux. Sorry don't have the specs, I don't pay much attention to them anymore. :)

Sounds good. Who knows, Apple may come up with a dramatic CPU change in the next versions and you will be able to use the surplus cash, sell your iBook and go deeper into debt...

Sounds like a very nice trade, however, squeeze as much out on your end as possible, such as maybe him throwing in an iBook case, or an extra $50. But even as it stands, that's a good deal.

Well if he won't agree to send you the machine first, then I suppose Escrow would be your best bet, altough it's a hassle.

Possibly setup eBay auctions and intentionally let each other use "Buy It Now" so both of you are ensured through eBay?

HAHAHA! eBay offers as much protection as Saran wrap offers against nuclear attack -- none. That's why eBay has become a cesspool of scammers.

Agreed. He is going to send the machine first since his HomeOwners covers his laptop (apparently). I will cash his check before sending out the PowerBook. I think it's a good trade.

Good trade - I've been following the other guy's attempt to nab a 12" PB on Ars Agora for a while now; even almost bought his iBook, but I got a great deal elsewhere. Enjoy the $$ and the iBook. Awesome little machines they are...
