We had a cannibal much closer to home...
This guy in Great Falls, MT, kidnapped and killed a kid (probably raped him too) then fed his neighbors spaghetti with a sauce that "tasted wierd."
This happened about 3 years ago, his trial(s) are still underway.

Where does the assumption that he raped the kid come from? Is there evidence of this?

I haven't read anything about the case for a while, but if I remember correctly, he was a convicted sex offender before this happened.
It's hard to prove rape if they never find the whole body...
