Hmmm, got a question today i really don't know an answer to. I think it should be possible, but i'm not such an unix adept that i know how. Is it possible to change the root account password from a normal account with admin rights? and if yes, how?

i know of the utility on the installer disk, but as far as i know it will only let you reset normal accounts and afaik not the root account itself (dont really know for sure, never needed it. let know if i'm wrong please)

Hmm, i knew that, but on this machine the old password is lost. However you pointed me in the right direction. I disabled the root user, then simply deleted manually everything in the field except the asterisk, and enabled the account again.

NIM then prompts for a non-trivial password and done :-)

thanks!
